so i have been having same problem with my car not starting at times and starting right up other times. i went out earlier and tried to start and it just clicked. so i held key over and pumped clutch and it started on third pump. does that mean starter relay bad? just tryin to figure this damn starting issue out.
anyone have anything to add? wanna get this problem fixed
Did you check the contacts in the ignition switch in the column?
ill check those right now see if i can figure something out. also gonna volt meter some stuff
everything with the ingnition switch seemed to be fine. battery is new. tested starter at kragen they said good. changed battery terminals and ground wire. spliced two wires that go to clutch interlock switch or whatever its called, and that didnt solve problem. i got starter relay out but havnt ordered new one yet. might just grab one out of junk yard see if it makes deifference at all. tried other main relays and no difference still. oh ya also put whole other distributor on and nada. not sure what else to check. ive done wire from starter to battery jump start and that works. so that should be another test showin starter good. reconnected all alarm stuff and those are done clean. so im still at same point i started… click click click start (if im lucky). i would take to mechanic if i knew they would give me other idea other then “your starter bad” small town mechanics here will be no help! what should i do???:bang:
well i might of solved my issue. from what i read around this site i narrowed it down to main relay, starter relay, and ignition. so i went to local junk yard that has an da integra with only 110k miles on it to get these parts. (its kind of my go to parts car) it had all these parts and i got them all for 20 bucks. first tried main relay and just “click” no start. so then i try starter relay and “click” no start. so then i switch out ignition and it starts right up. its been startin fine last two days. so hopefully it stays that way. so it could of been my ignition or maybe my after market alarm wired to my ignition. either way its fixed for now.
hopefully this might help someone else with the same prob.
I’ve been having the same “starting” problem for about 6 months now. Finally, yesterday, I was pumping gas and it wouldn’t start. I played with it about about 15 minutes (felt like forever) and came to the conclusion that this time I wouldn’t be so lucky. The gas attendant girl and I push started it and I was able to get home. This morning, I was able the start it by bypassing the starter to the battery. That was good news. Now, it has to be the starter relay, clutch safety switch, or the ignition harness. I checked continuity of the ignition switch to the clutch safety switch…got nothing. The problem has be the ignition harness. Since this was my only car, I bypass start it again and drove it to the junk yard. Bought a ignition switch, came home, replaced the old one w/ the new, turned key…my car ROARS again.
So the problem on my car was the ignition harness. The original ignition harness was all cut up by the prior owner(s) from installing a kill switch chip. What I’m really hoping for is for this to solve the problem to my main/fuel relay. Sometimes my car will die from not getting gas. I know it’s not the relay b/c I’ve tested it out with known working relays and it still dies. When it dies from this, I just plug and unplug the relay a couple of times and starts. I thought the harness was bad, but I’ve tested continutiy and the wires hot. I’m totally stumpped w/ this problem.
