Carbon Fiber hood w/ Turbo

Got a question for some of you guys out there. Any one know if carbon fiber hood can withstand the heat that the turbo builds up. Don’t want to buy one and have it end up warping on me. Thanks…

hell yeah they can!
theres even exhausts made from carbon fiber…

There are many different resins that can be used for carbon fiber parts, some of which are more suited to high-temp applications. A member from Puerto Rico mentioned at one time that CF hoods delaminate down there due to the sun. Try contacting one of the better companies and ask their tech people, you could also probably build a heat shield that you could mount over the turbo and header while driving, and uncover to show it off when you wanted to.

hey street racer, what part of west palm beach do you live in? Go to school around here?

I live off Village Blvd/45th Street. And I work in Jensen Beach.

by the way, hows you turbo g2 comin along?

sweet, i live out in Lake Worth. Going good bro, putting my motor back in today! Im looking at approx a month or two until it is fully complete w/ paint job and all.

my buddy has the VIS CF hood on his civic and hasn’t had any problems with the heat from his turbo…

i like that, 4 door civic. Something different. Does he have heat wrap or anything of that sort around the down pipe/ exhaust manifold?

cf hoods cant take shit for heat… theres one on a turbo eclipse here and its destroyed…

So just becuase you’ve seen ONE messed up hood, you jump to the conclusion that they’re all bad? How do you even know the heat is what messed it up?

I’ve seen more than 1 hood get screwed up from the heat from a turbo… I sell hoods and all that stuff for a living… I sold this one to a customer and told him to get the heat shield or else the hood will crack underneath and the top will bubble… sure enough that happened.

Well if that did happen, I doubt it was a real VIS CF hood…cheaper ones are poorer quality, even sunlight can damage a cheap CF hood. I Just bought a VIS CF hood friday, can’t wait till my car is done.

BTW, bluTegG2, If you want to buy a VIS CF hood locally, there’s a shop in Boynton Beach called AutoSportz, they sell em pretty cheap. Grade A - $475, Grade B $375

if the turbo is close to the hood any hood will crack underneath and eventually bubble on the top if there is no heat shield on the hood… VIS hoods are nothing special I’ve had a bunch of customers complain about fitment and quality.

maybe with the old VIS hoods, but the new ones are some of the best I’ve seen. I know of atleast three(one has been sold to some guy in ohio or indiana though) Civic Sis all running Greddy turbo kits and VIS CF hoods, and multiple other turbod cars running around with CF hoods and they don’t have a problem. sure, if the turbo is mounted too close to the hood, it’ll probably cause problems, but that’ll happen with anything really. the sun is a problem because of UV rays, not heat.
