I’m in the process of removing the crapet from my '91 DA, but the footrest for the drivers left foot has me stumped. How in earth is this friggin thing attached to the car?
I’ve removed all the seats and center console, and the only things left are the framework under the dash ( I don’t want to cut the carpet…) and the left footrest.
any tips?
I sure wish they had brought the Integra here to Europe in the early 90’s. Replacement parts are so hard to get a hold of here.
See the rectangle in the middle with the texture on it? That piece needs to be removed. It can be hard to remove w/o putting some tool marks on it. You should be able to pry it out with a small flat head screwdriver.
It will then look like this:
(ignore the bolt head which is jb welded to the one in this photo, it was something I had to do in order to secure the dead pedal after the stock stud broke off)
Once you remove that textured panel you’ll find two nuts you can remove with a socket, extension and ratchet. Remove those two nuts, then slide the dead pedal off of the two mounting studs the bolts were threaded onto.
Thanks for the quick response guys, and for the photos Colin.
I was hoping for something like that, but the screwdriver I had was quite big and I didn’t want to take the chance of screwing the footrest up if I was wrong.
It’s good to have the G2ic back on the other side of the big pond… the local Honda club here in Norway have ever seen the older Teg’s so they can’t help.
I’ll have to wait and get the carpet out tomorrow night, then I can get it dried out.
i would like to ask how to remove the Doorjamb running boards (That plastic pieces that pin the carpet down near the doors) im changing my carpet too. =) thanks
Are you trying to remove the door sill plastic from the body or from the carpet? They should just pry off of teh door sill area, clips hold them in place and the whole thing just needs to be pulled upward till the clips pop out. It’s one of those things where it always feels like it’s going to break, so you stop and make sure you’re doing it right. Then just pull harder and with some luck it’ll come out w/o any damage.
As for removing them from the carpet… I was going to do this once, but when I saw how they were attached I opted not to. You’ll notice that the plastic has small “pins” or protrusions on it, these go thru holes in the carpet then there are small metal disks (each disk has a hole in it with radial slits coming outward from the hole) which slide over the plastic “pins”. The hole is smaller than the diameter of the pin, so the slits let the hole open up large enough for the pin to slide in. This also pretty much creates a “barb” like situation where the disk can slide over the pin but not back off of it.
If you try to remove the disks you will likely damage the pin and/or the disk itself. There may be a way to do it w/o damaging either but I never messed w/ it. If I was attempting this task and could not figure out how to safely remove the disks I would cut them off and purchase new ones from the dealer (although they aren’t cheap). The disks are replaceable, the pins, are not, if you damage them, you’re screwed. You could also try to source the disks from a junk yard but you’d probably just have to damage all the pins on that donor carpet in order to do so, which obviously on a junk yard car you probably would care about.
