cat-back

is it ok to gut out the cat myself?

if so, can someone send me some instructions.
and what should i expect to see when i look inside.
(ie crust, liquid, mold…)

TIA

Hrm… Its not something tuff… Its basically self-explanatory… I would do it like this

  1. Get 2 new gaskets (one for either side of the cat)
  2. Get liquid gasket sealer to put on the new gaskets.
  3. Unbolt the cat from the cat-back exhaust portion. Let the exhaust hang in place by the rubber hangers.
  4. Now unbolt the cat from the other side. It should now drop into your hands.
  5. Place cat on work table. It’s probably convered in carbon on the inside. Thats about it.
  6. Open it up. Remove all honeycomb like metals. Close.
  7. Go back under car. Put on new gaskets w/ gasket sealer. Replace cat. Voila.

This is simplified, but its not hard by any means. But in do way do i endorse gutting a cat. It pollutes, smells like crap, and is illegal. I run with a cat. Most people do. You’ll any gain 1-2 horses, max, and your car will now smell like a 1983 chevy pickup truck. Don’t do it. Your exhaust will sound bad too.

cat

damn i didnt know it was illegal.

maybe i wont do it.
right now im not worried bout performance (im still trying to get it to run properly. so is getting a new cat necesary for the car to run properly?
if not ill wait maybe a month till i get money. but now when i let go of gas (auto tranny) the car jerks. i thought it might be cuz the cat is clogged. or motor mounts or tranny dying.

But thanks for the advice
