Installed a deck awhile ago, and have come across a problem. The deck will not hold any memory settings! No tuner presets, clock or anything will work.
The old aftermarket tape deck that came with my car when I bought it had the same problem, as it was not able to hold presets, etc. in it’s memory. So now I’m guesing it has something to do with the wiring…
All the wires are hooked up properly to the harness, so could it be a problem with the wire(s) further away from the deck somewhere? Anyone had this happen to them, or know what I should do??
The problem is with the constant battery wire. Basically, there are two power leads to your deck. One is connected with the ignition to tell your deck when to turn on. The other is connected to the battery to keep all the presets. Your problem is with the second wire. Sometimes there is a separate in line fuse attached to this wire, so you might want to check that, and check that you don’t have a blown fuse in your fusebox. If all else fails, you can always run a small guage wire right from the battery to your deck. If you take this route, remember to run a fuse in line to protect your deck.
Assuming you have it wired correctly, 99% of the time it’s the fuse(s). If you change it (them) and it blows again shortly after, you have a short on the line. The latter doesn’t happen to often.

When I got my 91 GS a while back it had a similar problem… with mine the stereo I installed just did not work at all, althought the stock one did… I checked the wire harness leading from the car, but everything seemed to be in order… so the wire had a shortage… I wired the stereo directly to the battery and it has worked fine ever since…
