What do you guys do to block of your center console and dash after removing the radio and all that?
Reason is that i removed my fan/temp/vent control, center vents, radio, ashtray and lighter. Im not 100% on how to block off the gapping hole in my dash.
Heres what i have going for now but im not sure i like it. Its walnut with a walnut stain. If your wondering why wood, its because i think carbon kevlar would be ugly as hell and dont have any other ideas.

I think the center might look cleaner if you put the pocket at the bottom back in. Then stopped the plate where the ashtray was. Then paint it flat black or cover it with some fabric.
the tray is terribly useful too, maybe not so much on a track car, but having somewhere to stash change for tolls is nice especially since there is an AFR display where the coin tray was.
also lends a bit of aesthetics to the interior as opposed to a huge plane of brushed aluminum
You could also do the black abs plastic they make gauge panels out…they sell it on ebay in sheets and it can easily be heated and contoured to fit nice. Also its cheaper and lighter than the aluminum.
I think the idea is really good but the wood finish isnt really my taste, maybe if you sprayed it with semi-gloss blk or just flat blk.
you know I found on youtube some vids on how to spray paint carbon fiber looking finishes. its like a 4 step thing and looked easy maybe you can look into that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_dLALTjbyM
I can only speak for myself, but the reason(s) were a, to cover up the now non-functional under dash ventalation system that was removed, with somthing a little easier to look at, and b, to have a place in the center of the dash to easily view the remainder of a soon to be 5-gauge panel, where as the side vents are just blocked off for cosmetic reasons:D
