Changing headlight bulbs (USDM) and also fogs

I noticed the teg tip on this wasn’t too helpful on the front page, so I thought I’d make a quick write up for doing it.

It helps to have another person with you, preferrably strong. I started with the driver’s side headlight. All you do is find the bulb socket on the backside of the headlight assemly, it is white and has wires going into it with three holes in the back (going across horizontally). There is a black plastic piece holding the socket into the headlight - it has grooves all over it. Untwist that (can’t remember if it’s clockwise or counterclockwise, try both ways, one will work) and jiggle the socket out…don’t force too hard though. Now is when it’s nice to have a helper. There is a tab on the white socket. You need to push down hard on this while pulling on the bulb (but do NOT touch the glass). You can use the black plastic thing to help you get it out. It may take some hard pressing on the tab, but eventually it will come out. Then you get your new bulb, being careful not to touch the glass, and put it in the socket (remember to put the black plastic thing back as well, same way it was with the old bulb). Being very careful not to bump the bulb on anything, put it back into the hole in the headlight. Once you get it in there, screw the black plastic thing back on so it holds the socket in place. You will know when it’s in, it’ll be tight in the hole. You can jiggle it a bit to check.

For the passenger side, you have to unclip the air box (four clips) and move it over to the side. Only worry about those four clips. Removing the air filter helps too. What I did on this side, was I took a flat head screwdriver and pressed down on the white tab, while gently pulling on the socket. I got the socket out first, then I unscrewed the black plastic thing and took out the bulb from the headlight. I then switched bulbs and put the bulb back in first, with the black thing on it, then plugged in the socket. I then screwed the black thing back on. It is a tight squeeze, I have small, thin hands and I still got cut up and bruised from messing with the lights. Once you do one side, the other side gets easier.

For fog lights, it’s really simple: there is a bolt on the inside edge (on the side that faces your Acura logo on the hood) that you will need to loosen. You shouldn’t even have to take it all the way out. As soon as it loosens, the fog light piece itself will come out of the headlight assembly. Remove the black rubber piece on the back, then unhook the spring. Take out the bulb and replace. All you do is pull it out of the socket and plug in the new one. Now, when I changed mine the piece that plugged in was shaped a little differently - but I was able to still connect them through that opening in the side of the socket. You will figure it out. Carefully put the bulb back in, do not bump the glass on anything. Rehook the spring, and put the rubber piece back on. The passenger side fog light may be a little harder, just sort of hold the air intake piece over and stick a wrench down in there. It will take patience but it will come out.

If I left anything out, please add for me…hope this helps someone…I had to ask around because there was no writeup on this.

Wow good tips

I used the one where you left the black retaining ring on and removed the white connector off the back of the bulb first as I did not have another set of hands to help.

I actually did this on both bulbs as I tried to remove the white connector after removing the retaining clip and bulb from the housing and coudn’t do it without a second set of hands

I just installed a set of 9004 silverstars and could see a slight difference in colour/ brightness but not enough IMO to justify the difference in price between the siverstars and the other syvania 9004’s
here is a pic i took with the driver’s side with the silverstar installed and a regular 9004 in the passenger’s side headlight.

Well I had a set of Silverstars I got brand new off of ebay for like 5 bucks lol, and it was worth it. I liked them.

$5.00!!

$5 for both:shock:
Lucky!

Thanks again for the tips.
I couldn’t have done it without you (and G2iC of course).

personally, i thought it was easier to take off the front bumper to get to the pass fog light, screws in the wheel wells, take out the turn signals, and theres some bolts back there, pull it off, and you’ll see the nut, it wasnt hard at all to get thorough, and after you take your bumper off once, you’ll never forget, it just gets easier and easier.

 NooB. You turned a 1min job into 20min. :whew:

haha dude for real, why take off the bumper?? Just shove a wrench down in there

I was just changing out my fog bulbs on my new DA…and the bolt was rusted on the pass. side…and I was remembering how you said to remove the bumper…lmao…worst case scenario take off that intake thing and you have plenty of room

saved from the crx!

nice to hear you are back in a DA bacardi
