How do I fix this?
Replace your oxygen sensor. Simple as that.
Is there only one oxygen sensor? Do I need a special tool?
check it first with a voltmeter. it might not be bad. mine went away after i replaced the distributor
What wires do I check? Did you replace the whole distributor?

There is a special socket that makes the job a lot easier. It has a slit up the side so that the wire can stick out. It is less than $8.00 from any autoparts store and will work on almost any O2 sensor.
Trust me spending $8.00 for the right tool is better than trying to use an open end wrench.
I changed it and it still comes on. Is there anything else I can check for. I didn’t know what to check for with a voltmeter or which wires to check.

btw remove the sensor while warm
ya the igniter was gone so had to buy a rebuilt distributor. 220$
