i need help doing this. i dont understand spring rates or anything like that.
im looking to get a set-up that allows me to dd and be comfortable. the set up on my crx is perfect but im doubting that it would work the same on my da. the crx drives really nice. its slightly stiff enough so that when i hit bumps and dips in the road it eases in and out of them but when i want to take fast and tight turns it tells me yes and just does it gracefully.
i know i cant get the same thing for the da because its a bigger car but i would like to get as close as possible. i was looking at the blackworks full coilover set up just because i know it would most likely be a good ride going with them. but i dont want to just guess. i dont want any surprises with my suspension set up on my da.
any help would be great in guiding me in the rite direction. i also am looking to get a 1.5in drop in the fron and a 2in drop in the back or close to that…
I just ordered a set of Progress Coil-overs and should be shipped tomorrow so arriving by the end of the week considering they are located about 3 hours from my house. I’ll let you know how they work out on my DB1. I haven’t heard anything negative so far on these and they are inexpensive as well. PM me if you want me to post my findings here.
I DD the car and like to drive with a little spirit but don’t go crazy in traffic so I completely understand the need to have a decent ride but have the option to take a corner for fun if you want to.
ive decided on koni yellows. theyre name brand, adjustable, and in my price range. now im deciding on lowering springs on coilover sleeves. im kind of leaning towards the coilovers because my crx has them and theyre cool. i also cant find any lowering springs that in the range that i want to drop the car.
im looking to get in the area of 1.5 in the front and 2-2.5 in the rear so i can get rid of the massive wheel well in the back.
anyone know a good set of springs or coilovers? i looked at the h and s techs and all the reviews said that they were too soft and rode like crap.
and how low is a 2in drop in the front, how close to the ground does it put a front lip? is that too low? im trying to avoid the speed bump issue with lowering the car.
a 2" drop is nothing. you won’t have any problems with speed bumps. however you got it backwards for the drop you want to drop the front a little more then the rear if you want the car to look equal. the gap in the front is bigger then the rear. the H&R race spring will give you a 2.25" drop in the front and 2" in the rear. those paired with the koni yellow’s will make a very nice suspension setup. or if your budget is a little bigger you can get the ground control koni yellow specific coilovers and adjust the height and order any spring rate you want. for daily driving i suggest to just get the off the shelf rates.
I was in the same situation as you, wanting a mild drop ~ 2" and not wanting a horribly rough ride. I got ground control coilovers and koni yellow shocks and am extremely pleased. I went with 400f/350r spring rates and the ride is not bad at all. I did a 2-2.5" drop or so all around. My cat scrapes just a bit on one of the speedbumps coming in to work but it isn’t bad. I’m on extended top hats as well.
