i think i have a short in my cigarette lighter. im not 100% sure thou sometime my radar detecter will just keep repeating it self. not fully functioning. my first idea was because the stock one was rusty so i completely replaced it. not it still does it. any suggetions. i know someone else has had this problem
There is a relay under the dash that put power to the cigarette lighter.
I think your problem is the radar detector, or is the detector shutting right off and then on again repeatedly?:hmm:
“There is a relay under the dash that put power to the cigarette lighter”
There is, where? 94
there’s another thread on here that mentions intermitant cigarette lighter problems, search rear window defroster or integrated control unit and it should come up. there’s multiple problems that can be linked to that, some which you may not realize you have yet. take a look at that post and see if anything rings a bell… good luck
i really dont think its the radar. i bought if from a company off ebay with good feedback.“cobra 9700” ive also had it about a year. i put it in my friends trans am and it worked perfectly. The relay, that sounds like it would do that. does anyone know were the relay is. i almost felt like choping the wire to the detector and runing it to the + and - on the cd player but i figured it would be to ghetto and possibly catch on fire so i didnt. thanks for the help
Well if it works in another car then it’s not the detector.
The problem has to be the connection at the lighter or the lighters wiring.
As far as I know the ICU has nothing to do with the lighter,
also as far as I know there is no relay that controls lighter, is the lighter in a g2 not hot at all time, powered even with ign. switch off?:hmm:94
i dont know. i replaced the lighter and it still does it. Bad conection sounds like it could effect that to. But i dont know were to start. i was thinking about doing a reading on how much current it is putting out. but i dont have anything to use to test it. i thought about using the positive wire from the light bulb that lights up around the cigarette lighter. but i didnt. cause i figured that wouldn’t help. any more suggestions.
does the lighter itself work in the new lighter assembly?
If you want to hard wire the lighter you can just use the 2nd ign. free pin on the under dash fuse box… http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/90-93-acura-integra-OEM-indash-fuse-box-w-fuses-etc_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ40017QQihZ010QQitemZ200034760749QQrdZ1#ebayphotohosting 2nd ign. free pin is the one next to, [above] the one with the terminal… http://www.scosche.com/scosche_caraudio.aspx?CategoryID=90&ItemID=FDNR250-100 still plugged into it, ground the detector to the cars chassis, you will find dash harness ground close to under dash fuse box.:idea:94
havent really found the solution, but i throu a one size bigger fuse in and it hasnt did it since. knock on wood.
You should never replace a fuse the is blowing with a bigger one.:tapfing: 94
yea i know. it was never blowing before thou. my guess is with my CD player and constantly stealing power from my cigarette lighter adn all the other electrical current flowing throu that fuse it may have been pauseing with that that size of fuse. :ghetto:
If your CD player can not get the current it needs from the stock constant power lead in the OEM radio harness, wire the HUs yellow constant power directly to the batt.
Run a fused 12ga -10ga lead from the batt. to behind the HU and connect the HUs yellow to it, use a metal “L” bracket from the back of the HU to the stock rear support bar, [to beef up the ground].
The above only needs to be done if you are using the HU internal amp to power any speakers, if so, you will notice a marked improvement in the HUs SQ. 94
i think maybe the fuse i was using before was a cheap dollar store one. so mayeb that was the problem. i dont know i dont want to mess with anything right now cause it all working. SQ. 94 <--------- i can do that to
Does any body have a pic or location of the cigarette lighter relay underneath the dash. Thanks …[quote=sick_da;1635170]i think maybe the fuse i was using before was a cheap dollar store one.
