clearing out tail lights?

Hello,

I saw the tips on how to clear out the tail lights (taking out the amber portion). Has anyone tried it on a 90-93 db integra? If so, was it hard and if you have any pics, may I see?

Thank you

I have. Firstly 90-91’s are different than 92-93 as 90-91’s don’t have amber in them. I have cleared those though, I just heat them up inthe over then use a heatgun to finish taking them apart. Then I sand down and polish the inside plastic parts with the lines on it until is perfectly clear, spray the rest of the inside with chrome paint and use aluminium tape (the stuff they use for sealing ducts on furnaces) to fill in some of the gaps where the light bulbs are. Then I apply a bead of silicone all around the light, heat it up and seal it again.

As for the 92-93, the process is the same for the sedan as it is for the coupe as suggested in teg tips.

I will give you this warning though…The whole process is VERY difficult. So many things can go wrong. Baking them and heating them apart is extremely tedious and you can melt the plastic making the lights unusable very easily. It also smells horrible and I would suggest wearing a dual canister organic vapor facemask. (not the little white paper kind but one used for auto body spray ect)

Here’s what it the 90-91 turned out like

Sorry but I have no pics of the 92-93’s I did. They are easier to do because you dont have to sand down any lines or anything…You just pop out the amber portion and put them back together.

Sorry, I meant 92-93. My brother did tell me something about putting it in the oven, although the tips didn’t say anything about. I’m a bit skeptical about putting it in the oven as I’m afraid I might melt things that I shouldn’t. I asked my friend for a spare tail light, or one that she doesn’t use, to practice on. Hopefully, I get it soon.

You mentioning the type of mask to use makes this sound hardcore. Much more things to buy… You really can’t just use the little white masks huh? I wish they just sold tails without the amber in it…

That pic of the tail light looks nice. Thank you very much for your input.

Did these a long time ago…My car is a DA, but the process is still the same. I used the Oven method because that gave the light even heating making it less susceptible to cracking on the edges. The only downside is the potential of melting the tail light if left in too long or using too high of a heat.
