Clicking noise in drivers side rear?

Hey,

I searched the forums and still couldn’t figure out what this clicking noise is.

92 gsr rear disc with 160,000 miles

I replaced all the bushings in the rear with poly, new rear disc brake pads and rotors, new tires and 4 wheel alignment about 12,000 miles ago.

8,000 miles ago I replaced the rear wheel bearing assembly(non-oem part)

As I drive the click/knock noise from the left rear gradually increases with speed. It also seems to go away when braking. I jacked the car up, and looked at all the fittings and tested the wheel for any play, it all seemed fine. I also made sure the wheel bearing and wheel were torqued down. Any ideas?

check the tire for rocks?

It sounds crazy but, check your exhaust hangers.

Hey,

Thanks for the replies. Nah, its not rocks in the tires. I did read that post about the exhaust. Ill admit mine is screwed up (OBX sucks). I cant really fix the exhaust now…but I will try tying a rope to the exhaust to see if it is moving.

this might sound wierd, but it has happend to me. I had a small rock lodge its self in the colling ducts for the rotor and every time it passed the brack shim it would click. gave me the same symptoms it seems you have.

something to check:shrug:

Hey,

Gonna try the rope thing tomorrow…

In the rear are solid rotors. So I think it what your talkin about wouldnt effect my car.

My 2 cents worth. Maybe you’ve worn your rotors down to minimum thickness, so there’s this BIG rim at the outer edge thats sticking out. So say a rock or whatever peened that edge over and its now striking the brake pad.:whisper:

Yeaooo,

Thanks guys for all the help…It’s fixed

I was replacing the rotor, just to start canceling things out and I was looking at the rear sway bar and was like wtf? When I took apart the rear suspension I put all poly bushings anyways, I had a friend help and install it back on one side and I did the other. He must not have tightened the sway bar bolt that mounts it to the bracket on the body all the way. It must have loosened up over the miles.

It also explained to me why it got slightly louder when turning (coulda swore that made it the bearing)

Anyways long story boring…don’t let friends work on your car.
