Clutch Interlock switch bypass, which starter wires

OK so after searching I am trying to clearly figure the best/ easiest way to bypass the clutch interlock switch. Do do this under the dash? if so do i do this by the fusebox or can i unplug the interlock switch by the clutch peddle.

Here is my reasearch from this site. I still am confused.

If you ground the black/blue wire the relay should pull in. Then you should be able to turn the key and start the car.
If you make a jumper 2 male spade lugs and remove the relay put the jumper from BLK/WHT TO BLK/RED, you have then by passed both the starter relay and the clutch interlock switch. The car should start make sure it is not in gear.

can access the clutch inter lock wire at the starter relay, both are accessible at the switches at the pedals

A common problem is the “Clutch Interlock Switch” not supplying the starter relay with the ground it needs, [standard transmission]

Check the “CIS”, [high up on clutch peddle] it has a black wire, [ground input] and a black/blue, [output to starter relay] check the black/blue wire for a ground when clutch peddle is stepped on.

The clutch interlock switch on our cars is in the ground side of the circuit so the - supply should be right. The wire from the alarm should be connected to the blu/blk wire. Blk wire runs right to a ground point.

you can bypass it at the relay by one of two methods:

1 Cut blk/wht pin 2 and blk/red pin 3 and connect the two wires together. The blk/wht is from switch. The blk/red is to starter. This bypasses relay completely.
OR
2 cut blk/blu wire pin 4 and connect relay side to ground. This will energize relay whenever there is a crank signal.
The cruise control wont be affected by either one these methods.

I do need help on this.

What is it you are doing that you need to bypass the CIS?

If it’s for a remote start then the easiest way is to connect the remote starts “status” wire, [ground out when running] to the blue/black lead at the clutch interlock switch or right at the starter relay, [under HU in a g2 I believe]:whisper:94

I am doing it to start my car, not for the remote start. The CIS or CIS wire has somehow gone bad and I am just trying to get going. My curse control has been removed so that is not an issue.

Cut blk/wht pin 2 and blk/red pin 3 and connect the two wires together. The blk/wht is from switch. The blk/red is to starter. This bypasses relay completely.

in this method where is the blk/wht pin 2 and blk/red pin 3 and where is the relay

Thanks

The CIS wires are black, [chassis ground] and blue/black, [to starter relay], I believer the relay is located at front of console, below radio, attatched to the dash sub frame.

If you are sure it is the CIS just unplug it and use a jumper to connect the black and the blue/black in the plug.

There are a number of reasons, other then the CIS, that would prevent starting…

1- ign. switch starter contact is bad.
2- starter relay is bad.
3- starter solenoid is bad.
4- starter is bad.
5- a connection to any one of the above is bad.

Have you tested and determined that it is the CIS that is the problem?:hmm:94

I had one good starter in and replaced it with a different good starter. The hot wire from the battery is hot and good. It has to be the other wire coming to the starter.

I was thinking the CIS but didnt consider the ignition switch. I can pop the clutch and start it.

So to make it easy what should I do?

I am having trouble unplugging the CIS. I see no clip. Is it a screw off?

Start by checking starter solenoid, make sure car is in neutral, turn on ign., then use a jumper lead from batt. pos.(+) post and touch it to the solenoid trigger terminal, [smaller gauge lead plugged into solenoid], if motor turns over starter and solenoid are good.

Next, [easiest] is the starter relay, by way of CIS, plug is clipped in, [not screwed in], if you can’t unplug it, you can…
1- make a jumper from something like a paper clip and push it into the plug, [wire end].
2- strip a little insulation back off the blue/black lead and use a jumper from it to chassis ground.:stare: 94

I’m going home to work on this. Thanks for the help. I will post soon.

So I jumped the started and it worked. Then I went to the clutch wires and unplugged them. The lower one is easy to get at but the upper one was a major pain to get out and even harder to get back in. I tapped the blk/blu wire and added a ground to it. The car started right up. The only thing is the wire didn’t have much wiggle room and I did solder it. After starting the car 3 times last night my electric tape job came undone and it won’t start again. I am sure that I just need to check the connection and ground.
Thanks for the help.
Any advice on what you would do. I don’t mine just grounding that wire but can I just cut the wire and ground only 1 of them. That would give me more solder room.

I would replace the switch.

You could cut the blue/black and just ground it.

You could just unplug it and install a jumper from the black wire terminal to the blue/black wire terminal on the plug and leave it unplugged

You could cut both the black and blue/black and join them together.

You could strip back a little insulation on the black wire like you did on the blue/black and twist them together and leave the plug unplugged or plug it in.

It really makes no diff. as long as the blue/black wire ends up with a ground, remember the black wire is a ground.:think:94
