I’ve got a 160K on the engine and not sure when the clutch was replaced but it dosn’t slip. The problem is whenever I go to shift into 2nd it grinds. only when I try to shift above 3K RPMS and only in 2nd. I shudder everytime I hear it cause I know its hurting my baby. I’m thinking maybe Syncros but don’t know. If it is the Syncros Where are they, how do I get to them, how hard is it for the home mechanic, etc??
Any help is greatly appreciated thanks in advance,
Ryan
it sounds like your synchros, located inside the tranny , but thats all I can tell you …I don’t do tranny’s:confused:
That’s a very big job for the home mechanic. You have to take your transmission right off the car. I’ve only done it on a CRX, but it’s a pretty similar procedure. take off wheel, knuckle, axle, support engine, remove transmission… to make a very long story very short. Good opportunity to lighten your flywheel if you’ve ever thought about doing that too, but chances are when you see the price for the tranny parts, you won’t wanna spend any more than you have to…
Definitely don’t do it unless you have a Helms manual and a quite a bit of mechanical experience. Get an estimate from a shop too… it’s easier if you have a hoist.
Thanks
Thank you guys for the help I think I’ll just take it to a shop and have them do it.
I’ll probably be easier that way…
