Ive been thinking about the spec stage 3 clutch but im also looking for info on what clutches you guys think. I want one that isnt gonna die in a year or something.
Im decided on a fidanza 8lb flywheel. But the clutch im still open to opinions on. If anybody wants to comment on the flywheel though please do.
I DONT want a stock replacement clutch. I also want to stay away from clutchmasters. Name brands only.
the best clutch to use is the one designed for the hp level or torque level you make. Buying a high performance clutch without needing it will only cost you in the long run. The higher you go in clamping loads the less you are able to “slip” the clutch. Almost everyone slips the clutch a little bit when they drive on the street. Buying a racing clutch when you don’t need it is a bad idea because when you slip a race clutch you decrease clutch life. You’ll have premature clutch life and think that the manufacture of your clutch sucks, when really it’s because you used a clutch that wasn’t designed for your application.
A stage 1 clutch is your best bet so that you get a little better holding capacity without sacraficing clutch life.
edit: most any clutch over stage 1 will be a puck design
I know you said no Clutch Masters (not sure why), but I have had a st3 in my car for several years. It is a little “grabby” from a stop, but nothing extreme.
Many people have had good things to say about Exedy, and ACT clutches too.
If its stock why waste your money getting a stage 1 clutch all you need is something like an oem replacement. They are made to hold a tad bit better than an actual OEM clutch and you probably wont be putting any serious power to the ground to make an OEM clutch slip. And if you decide later on that you want to boost and make upwards of 250 whp then you should upgrade your clutch when you decide to make some power.
As for the flywheel have you tried to get a type R flywheel and have it resurfaced. I recently got mine back form the machine shop and weighed it in at 14.3 lbs. Its not an 8lb flywheel but its oem and its still lighter than stock.
Just something to think about. Whats your reasoning about not wanting to get OEM replacement?
