Clutch pedal/cable question

I was driving home from work a few nights ago and my clutch pedal got really stiff, I practically had to slam it in for it to go down. It finally losened up a bit but ever since it feels like it’s grinding when I push it in, and it does not go down as far as it used to unless I apply serious force to it.

Is this a bad clutch cable? Or does it just need to be adjusted? Anything else it could be?

is you cable caught on something?

Ken

could be a problem w/ the cable, or it could even be a problem w/ the lever and/or the release bearing. my clutch pedal had always been sorta harsh and jerky…not smooth like its supposed to be. But i was used to it so i had no idea it was even something wrong. recently when i pulled my tranny out i found that the release bearing mechanism wasn’t very well lubed and even worse one of the tabs on the release bearing that holds the spring in place was broken off. This caused only one side of the bearing to have tension which created a stiffer pedal rather than a smooth one.

i have a simalar problem. today i was driving and then when i went to change gears the clutch pedal got really loose and would not allow for a gear change unless i pushed it to the floor. i stopped and from a stand still i put it in 1st and tried to drive like normal but the car kept on wantin to stall. could it be that my clutch is burned? i tried to adjust the cable but it still does it. Mah DA is really pissin me off lately…:bang:  :getsome:

“It a consperacy”

Yesterday when i went to pick up my brother from school i turned the car off like always, but when i tried to start it the weirdest thing happened. When i stepped on the clutch pedal to start the car the pedal went straight to the ground. It wouldn’t come back up! I reached down there to see if it was lodged on something but it was just there all loose. Then it happened!!! I could start the car WITHOUT stepping on the clutch …AND i could change gears while driving without using the clutch! :whoa: I drove it home for about 4 miles. As soon as i got home i checked everything out. When i tried to adjust the clutch cable it was pretty tore up and loose. I’m hoping that this is my only problem and not a burned clutch.

I also have the problem of the stiff clutch pedal, and I also have a bad clutch :frowning: I tightend my clutch cable and that worked for a little while, but now I am back to the stiff and slipping clutch.

Silver teg i had a similar problem but the answer was the pedal it was broken. We ended up taking the tranny of thinking it was a bad clutch and when we had taken it of, the clutch was perfect. I felt like an idiot when i looked closely and the petal was cracked right where the clutch cable goes. DOUBLE CHECK it pays of and saves time.

G2TEG XSI thanks for that hint. I’ll check it out after work but i’m pretty sure the pedal is fine. How’s the cali weather? It’s probably the same as when i left. Like i said thanks!

Actualy it’s great cold at night and hot during the day, this paid of last night during the Dodger game. I can wear my sweaters again:clap:
Well good luck and hope it’s not the clutch. BTW many shops told me that this happens to Honda’s often, and would not weld it back. Therefore i had to buy another one at the dismantling joint.

I had a similer problem and it turned out that one of the springs in the clutch disc had popped out and lodged between the clutch and the flywheel. F@%#ed things up pretty good.
Good Luck

My car had been driving fine I had been driving around all day then I parked at a friends house for a about an hour came out and went to start my car and it wouldn’t go into gear so I shut it off put it into first then tried to start it again the car started jerking forward then started and started to go then i had to pull it out of gear and syncro-shift all the way home. I thought i had broken the throwout fork or the spring had slipped off but when the tranny got pulled i realized one of the springs that is supposed to be riveted into the clutch plate had popped out and was now lodged between the clutch plate and pressure plate.Cost me $1100.00 for clutch job and flywheel. I got raped.

Damn It!!!

That is the exact same sh it that my car is doing. I’m gonna go home and install the clutch cable to see if maybe that’s it. I hope it is cause i sure as hell don’t want to spend all that cash on this. I’ll let you guys know what’s up tomarrow.:uhoh:

Shenkhi suck a dick…

I changed out my clutch and when I put the cable back now my pedal goes to the floor and doesn’t come back… Anybody know what could cause this? the spring is still on there, however the coil of the spring moves up and down freely… someone with a GOOD clutch look at your pedal for me and push the pedal in and out and see if the spring coil moves up and down please please pretty please?

Haha thanks,

Harry

Who is Shenkhi?

Oh btw I fixed the problem. Good luck everyone.
