So I have a question. Since I have a cable tranny, there’s the arm that the clutch cable attaches to that engages the clutch. How hard should it be to pull that up with my hand? Right now it’s not hard at all and I can’t decide if something’s not right or if it’s just the way that it’s set up that makes it so easy to pull. Any input?
hard to explain how hard it should be to move the arm, but it’s supposed to have very little up and down play. are you having clutch/transmission problems?
No I’m finishing up my 5 speed swap and it just doesn’t seem right. It’s a Competition Clutch Stage 1 so I just figured it would be at least a little harder than that. I can easily pull it up, which makes me think that something isn’t right. But I’ve gone through it a million times in my head and spent a lot of time making sure I did it right when I installed it
Mine has about 3/4-1" of ‘slack’ in it… this is the arm pushing the throw-out bearing down the input shaft, meeting the pressure plate.
Once it’s at the pressure-plate, yes it is possible by hand, but it takes a very solid pull.
A way to test it is put the trans in 1st, and pull the arm and try to roll the car (with the motor off of course!)… if you can get the car to roll, the clutch is working.
As i said, its common to have a bit of play in the arm… but the pressure plate should hold very firm… its quite a task to pull by hand.
Yeah mine goes all the way up easily. Well shit. What could I have done wrong?
The throwout bearing may not be connected properly to the arm. But you won’t know for sure until you take it apart…
Nvm guys this was resolved with a chain and a little man handling haha. I grabbed a chain, threw it on the arm, and managed to get the clutch to engage so it turns out I did it right after all

Glad to hear it worked out.
Yeah I expected it to be firm but not that firm ha
