In the last two days, I can hear a “chirp” or “squeak” from the front of my car, almost every time I leave a stoplight. I’m sure it’s not the tires, so what could it be? Could the clutch need adjusting? I’m pretty sure it’s an old clutch, and not sure, but it could be original (280,000 KM). What can I do to diagnose the chirp??? (sounds just like a tire chirp, but positive it isn’t!).
Could it be a belt slipping? Does it ONLY happen right when you start to move, or does it ever happen as you’re accelerating?
Often A/C or Alternator belts can make a chirping noise – even PS belts.
Seems to “chirp” just AS the car starts to move forward, as the clutch is disengaging. ie: I give it a bit of gas as I start to release the clutch pedal, and when it gets to the point where the clutch just starts to grab, it chirps/squeaks. I’m positive it’s not my driving skills, as I’ve been driving this car for 2 years the exact same (proper) way and it’s never done this before.
