I have a 90 teg motor in my crx, and the last couple of days, I have been getting a code 1 (O2 sensor). I just replaced the sensor when I put the motor in last June, so the sensor shouldn’t be bad. All the wiring seems to check out too. The first time when the computer threw the code at me, the car ran terrible and I had no power whatsoever. This time, the car ran ok, but I’m still a bit confused. (btw, i reset the ECU each time after checking the wiring).
this might sound wierd but when i changed my distributor the code went away. think it was the igniter. also check to make sure the o2 wire is not under stress and has a good connection, especially if you bought the universal one and had to splice it
If you crimped the connection then you should get back in there and solder it, that could fix the problem right there. This obviously only applies to the universal sensor.
ok. Thanks. I have a feeling it is a wiring problem. I just ran through a few of the diagnostics from the helms manual, and it seems to be intermitent… I.E. wiring related. I do happen to have the crimp connections. I’ll have to solder them tomorrow.
Yeah, that is a pretty common problem because the O2 sensor puts out such a small amount of voltage that a slightly bad connection will have a huge effect on how it works.
Solder that up and let me know if it works better or not.
Well, I pulled the o2 sensor out yesterday, and soldered all of the connections. I still managed to get a code 1 this morning. There was only one change that I have done recently with the running part of the car. I pulled out the stock program and put a performance program back in. I have had this program in before with no problems, but had to take it out to try to diagnose another probelm. One other thing… is it possible that it could be from a leak in the exhaust before the o2 sensor? I have a 90-91 motor, but I’m using the 92-93 manifold & downpipe, so my o2 sensor is down below by the cat instead of by the head.
Try putting in your stock ROM and see what happens. You probably wont get an O2 code with it in there.
The aftermarket ROM is probably making your engine run on the rich side and I am guessing that you dont have an SAFC or VAFC to counteract that side effect…
The header shouldnt matter, but you can check for exhaust leaks if you like. I have a 1991 teg with a header that has the O2 bung in the same place as the 92-93’s and it works great. The only O2 problems that I ever have are when I am at idle for a long period of time then my CEL will come on. That is just due to my cams and my cam timing though…
