code 17

anyone now what code 17 is diagnostic code 17, and what componet has to do with code 17, and where can i find it

Code 17 = VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) defective circuit or unplugged / defective sensor

u talking about the ones on the steering knuckle. cuz ive replsced my ecu and cluster and it didnt change anything, where do i need to look to find my speed sensor

no its the sensor that sits on the top back side of the tranny and marks your rpms and speed. It might be unplugged or something so just look into it.

We don’t need two threads for the same topic. The other thread was bumped by the OP at the same time he made this one… So please discuss this topic in the other thread.

And da6xsi06, the VSS is actually in the gauge cluster on 2nd gens and EF’s. The electrical VSS on the tranny that you’re referring is found in newer Honda’s (DC,EG, EK, etc…)

hey im throwing a code 17 but by the look of my gauge cluster, my rpm and speedometer is working but im still throwing a code 17. Any ideas what it could be. Now my vtec isnt engaging . =(

There is a loose connection between your gauge cluster and the ECU. Check that the plugs on the back of cluster is properly connected. If that doesn’t help, then you have a break in the wire and you’ll have to manually trace the VSS wire back to the ECU.

It makes sense that you have no VTEC at the moment. VTEC only engages if the ECU is sensing that you are moving, but since the ecu is not detecting a signal from the VSS, your VTEC will not work.
