Well, my car got keyed and I found out that my check engine light works. I know that code 43 is fuel management system, but what is causing it? TIA
99% of the time that means you need to change your O2 Sensor.
How does getting your car keyed make you realize your Check Engine light is on?

…it doesn’t. I should rephrase…Today I found out that my car had been keyed and to make matters worse, my check engine light came on .
I just replaced my o2 sensor. Must have got a bad one.
Anyhow, thanks.

What sensor did you get?? If you had to splice the wire(s), did you solder them or just use connectors?? If you dont solder that can make it go off. There is such a little amount of voltage going through that wire that just crimping it might not be enough…
Do you have any cams yet?? Adjusted cam gears?? It has been a long time since I have seen under your hood… Things like that will make it run rich and trip the sensor if you leave your car idling for too long, just like mine does, hehehe.

Jason, I bought the bosch o2 sensor that directly plugs in to the stock harness. No engine modifications have been made lately. I/H/E, that is all I got.
The first time my check engine light came on I was traveling at 75mph. All of a sudden there it was. I pulled over and shut off the car, looked at the ecu, and started it up again. The light was off for about 2 minutes and then came back on.
So, am I running rich? Fortunately, I have tomorrow off. I am going to replace the plugs, oil change, and take a look at the o2 sensor (will there be any physical signs of a faulty sensor to look for).
Thanks again.
No, you wont be able to tell if the sensor is bad just by looking at it. It will just have a layer of black carbon on it, that is normal.
While your at it you should replace your car and rotor if you havent done that in a while and your fuel filter. Then reset your ECU and see if that did the trick.
Good luck, and if you need anything just ask. I will be at home working on Ty’s car tomorrow so I will be in the frame of mind for working on cars…

Louis, that symtom you mentioned was dead-on the same as what I had before changing my O2 sensor. Since you replaced it already and reset your ECU, I bet it doesn’t do that anymore. There are not any real signs of physical damage to a gone O2 sensor if you were to compare it to slightly used, but working O2 sensor. The only way to test it is to do a voltage check off the sending wire.
Car’s fixed! I want to thank everyone for the help. My o2 sensor actually backed out and was barely connected to my header. I guess I did not tighten it enough. This time I put more locktite on it and torqued it to spec.
I also changed the oil, fuel filter, plugs…my car is running great!
Right on, glad to hear that Louis. Have fun revving away ![]()
