I have been having the CEL for ever a year and it was throwing a code 8. Now it is throwing codes 8 and 9 and even worse my car just shuts off, especially when I stop. It is often preceded by erractic idling as well.
Will replacing my distributor solve this problem? I plan to get it replaced in a few days and I just want to know that it will solve the problem before I put money in this.
When I had distributor problems, I was getting a code 15. And it shut off on me while driving randomly and then was hard to restart. I didn’t ahve any weird idle. Not saying it isn’t your problem…but maybe look at other stuff.
Im not sure but isnt code 8 a bad TDC sensor in the distributor.
I do know code 9 is a bad Cylinder position sensor which in usual mean your in need of a new distributor. you can however try this.
I forgot to mention that it sometimes take up to 5 min. to restart my car. At first I thought it was the fuel injectors not working right but that doesn’t seem to be the case, esp. when I can drive afterwards and keeping the idle high enough so that it doesn’t fall so low and stop.
