Code 8. plz help!

Hi ya’ll. I’ve read numerous posts here of code 8 but haven’t seen any like what I’ve described below.

I have an issue with my car. I’m getting a code 8 which stands for TDC sensor. Did the checks according to my Haynes manual and the TDC sensor is shot. I did the resistance check and there was no reading, which it should be giving me a reading between 350-700 ohms. Did the continuity check, didn’t get any and that’s what the manual said is should get.

Thing is, there’s no effect on performance.

Should I go ahead and replace my distributor? Wouldn’t want to cuz $ not my best friend right now. What do u recommend?

you will want to change the distributorr

i read your on this post http://forums.g2ic.com/showthread.php?64278-ecu-code-8 and like the ideas others posted

i just had the same issue and just got another one. money was avaliable at the time and i hate the CEL on. i had no performance issues also.

should you change it to see if it will fix this issue? yes
i dont think anyone wants to change out parts, then find out its a waste of money. my thoughts are, if money is really tight, ride it till the wheels fall off. when you can spare the $, its not like you have a car payment. plus, you will have an extra distributor at that point. a back up that works is nice to have even if the CEL goes off.

3 bolts and 4 plugs is an easy sway. that reminds me i need a timing gun

i have a cel for that too, have for a while, doesn’t appear to be anything physically wrong with the dist, internals or wires so i assume its the sensor itself.
as much as i want to change it I can’t afford it, i still take the car on long cross state trips and etc but that CEL is ugly/annoying.
I mostly don’t want have to screw with the timing, never done it before and im afraid i will just mess it up somehow.

probably best to fix it, I want to do mine once we get tax refunds.

open the dizz and replace the tdc
