Coilovers for DD and street use

So I’ve finally decide to pull the trigger and buy my Integra a set of coilovers. I’ve narrowed it down to Skunk2 Pro-S and Form Function type 1’s. My previous car was an 87 Scirocco w/ H&R sport springs and Koni Yellows. Even on the softest setting they were stiff but still very liveable. On the hardest setting, it rode STIFF. Defintely track only, not for the street.

The car will not be autox’d (maybe once for shiggles), mainly DD and spirited offway ramps. I was wondering if anyone has experience with either one of these set ups on DD. Looking to take a road trip up to Canada in the spring. I don’t really mind it being stiff, not looking to slam the car either just want it to handle well and not bottom out. I’m looking to lower it 1.75-2.00. Would you guys reccomend these for a DD? What’s a good tried and true supension set up for a DD?

Thanks

I’ve got ebay coilovers on my dd and love them. I had my da dropped pretty low. I upgraded the springs to QA1 and it rides nice, so I don’t think the coilovers are so much the issue as good springs.

^ Specs of your springs? What length and spring rate? Surprisingly 8" springs are double the cost of 10".

The sleeves and collars on the ebay coilovers are made from really low quality aluminum. I’ve seen multiple sets that failed in one way or another. Either the threads strip/shear off, the sleeve mushrooms and deforms, or the collars crack in half. My friend installed a set of ebay coilovers on his civic. They lasted a couple years but one day his drivers front sleeve failed and the spring came unseated and dropped. After looking at the “quality” of the materials used I was shocked it hadn’t happened MUCH sooner. My last DA I purchased came with ebay coils too and the sleeves were deformed and mushroomed when I disassembled them. I would NOT recommend Ebay coilovers.

I recently removed a set of Ground Control coils from my project car that saw at least 7-8 years of use by me and more by the previous owner. They were still in excellent condition. They exhibited no abnormal wear/deformation/cracks/anything.

If you don’t plan to autocross, and you just want to lower your ride for daily driving, you may want to consider Sprint Performance Springs. That is what I have on my 92 DB1 with 17" wheels and the ride is great. With the stock 14" wheels, it felt even smoother. I’ve been running them for almost two years now, and they’ve settled in quite nicely.

I believe the model number for 90-93 Integra is 1004, and the spec drop height is 2.5 front, and 2.25 rear. It’s not too low that you’ll be scraping over normal size speed bumps, and it takes care of that stock wheel gap quite nicely. You will have some negative camber, but I don’t think it’s too much to need get a camber kit. I could look it up later if you want to know the exact camber measurements.

Cant say I have had either but Currently my daily DA has skunk 2 pro c coilovers. They are stiff at times but most of the time I don’t even notice. The ratings are 10 up front and 8 in the rear (stiffness). Just get whatever is in your budget and avoid ebay lol

Thanks, just purchased the Skunk2 Pro-S coilovers. Hopefully I can get them installed soon. Thanks again for all the input

Had the Pro-S coilovers and didn’t like them. Replaced them with Function Form Type 1s and really enjoyed them. Currently, I am riding on Tein Super Street coilovers with pillow ball mounts and they are stiff. They will be replaced with Function Form Two.5s this year.

Tein Super Street with Damper and pillowball full coilovers

Yeah I have the sk2 type s for 4 years now and they ride really good on highway and street. Smooth on street and firm on highway.
