coming out of storage...

hey phantisy

no new fuel yet, there was a little less than 1/4 of a tank so imm fill er up today with premium

no new fuel filter…ill do that this week! never done it…hard, easy??

and actually didnt lube the walls! changed the oil and oil filter. put 5 qts in (i forgot i have that dam HUGE moroso oil pan, holds all that oil) put the key in and waited to hear everything was working (fuel pump and such) and off she went…she starts right up. better than my 1.6EL actually. just doesnt like to stay started, so for the first 15 seconds i give her some gas, then she takes over…

ill prob get new plugs - but the wires and cap are prob no more than 2 yrs old. think they need replacing? nothing looks dryrotted or anthing of the sort. and what the hells a button? lol

still have to change the tires and brakes…

o yea, there were spiders everywhere hahahah

edit: oooo yea, the fuel filter is on the left hand side of the firewall int eh engine bay right??? shit i remember a while back i was trying to get an AEM 94+ teg filter to work there…never could get it though! …hopefully im talking bout the right thing haha, but, its easy to replace ? wait…should i get a 90-93 filter? or a 98+ to match with the engine? dam it all - the oil filter was for a 98 gs-r so…?

Fuel filter is easy to change. Make sure you take off the gas cap to relieve the pressure in the system before you go at it. Some gas will come out so make sure you have rag under the filter. The “button” is the thing that spins inside the cap. Check the contacts in the cap and see what they look like. If the button is worn it will wear the contact faster. I would of oils the walls because with it sitting so long all lubricants are gone and it was rubbing metal on metal. Regular oil will not oil the walls and rings right away it takes a bit for that to happen that is why you should of oiled the walls and let it sit for at least 12 hours. The wires are probably fine but I like to change everything at the same time just so I know when its all been done.

The fuel in the system has for sure lost its “power” so your running gas that now has less octane in it so that could be why the low idle. Get some new gas in there and see how it goes.

great - can do man - ill b filling her up with gas at lunch when i shoot over to my math lecture - ill update then, ill prob get some octane boost as well

should i still worry bout the walls? when i change the plugs should i just try to get some lube down there? or is it a moot point at this stage? - cars been started about 5-7X and revved…well, to may be 7500-8000?

what do you think about seafoaming it? i did it to my old LS…smoked like a bastard haha.

thanks again for the help, cant tell you how much i appreciate it!

Well no need to oil the walls now. Any damage that was to be done would now be done and revving it that high wasn’t all that great for it but you cant change that now. I would wait til you get everything replaced and tuned up before I go revving it that high but that’s just my .02. This of running the motor without lubing the walls like having sex with no lube. Kinda like that on your motor til the lube gets everything nice and wet. I would not worry about the octane boot if you going to put in premium gas that should be enough. I would drive it like one of those old ladies that get on a 2 lane road with no passing zones and piss you off because you cant pass and they are going -10 under the speed limit for a day or so until everything is running normal.

AHHHH, alright man, dam it, knew when i did it i shouldnt have done it! haha i can lean off the gas pedal for a few days. thanks!

ill keep the post updated~!

Hey man, saw you on South Clinton last week. Car still looks very fresh.

thank you sir!

however, it has been sitting in that same spot on S. Clinton for about 6 days now :frowning: - i think its the starter…im planning on trying to push start it and get her to my parents driveway in fairport and swap in a new starter.

really not liking the fact that the weather is nice and i cant drive my car:think:\

I’m sorry if this has been asked, as I didn’t see it, but where did you get the Carbon Fiber Filler Panel for the back? I have to say I really like the look!! Very nice G2.

SEAFOAM! did it 2 my LS last week and it runs like a champ now! Didn’t know the R.O.C had G2ICers Nice 2 Know!

Congrats with getting the car running again. It’s always a little scary the first time for me after each winter has gone.

My DA is still in storage…too much going on these days to take it out (moving, recycling the EG etc).

When i start her up, I usually get a few squealing belts. Watch out for those, it suggests something could be seizing up (and if it smokes, don’t gun it… I learned that the hard way)

Some thoughts as I read your thread…

  • Slow charger is very useful.
  • I haven't tried the oil thingy, but I do crank it with the fuel line disconnected.
  • A nice wash and wax to make me feel better and make up for leaving it covered up for so many months.
  • There's a pretty active thread regarding idling speed of our cars. I noticed that mine has gotten stranger over the years, sitting inactive may not help.
  • Check to make sure nothing has nested in the car...
  • Brake fluid may have air/water built up, if it's spongy, you know what to do (although beware of wrecking the MC by over pumping the brake)

Wow…car that good shouldn’t be sitting in the hideout that long!!! Tsk Tsk! lol. Give her some fun time

agree, car looks amazing

that is a very nice looking car. I’m jealous… my LS will never be that nice. it would cost far more than the car is worth just to fix the dents & radiator support.
to be honest i overpaid for mine because i wanted it and liked how it drove, but its banged up pretty badly. lots of cosmetic damage and stuff i didnt see when i bought my car.

wish you luck with your car…
i would probably do:
air filter (check atleast)
PCV valve (check atleast)
change oil & replace oil filter (probably after seafoam)
fuel filter (after seafoam)
fresh tank of gas (half tank just incase, with seafoam)
i would probably do the 1/3 1/3 1/3 thing with a 16oz can of seafoam.

check spark plugs and wires.
battery is probably fine, but if its not im sure you will find out soon enough.
double check vital grounds and connections, apply some new Dielectric Grease wherever necessary.

brake fluid & bleed, just because brakes are important. haha
power steering fluid? never done it myself because i had a new rack put in when i got my car… as nice as it is I wish I did a non-power rack though. :frowning:

engine coolant flush/fill (and check thermostat while you are at it.)
transmission… dont know if changing it is normal after storage.

check all vital rubber (tires, hoses, brake lines, vac lines)

get a tube of white lithium grease and hit all the hinges with a bit. (doors, latches, hatch struts, hood hinges/latch)
don’t forget some under-the-hood stuff like throttle.

condition all the rubber stripping around your doors & hatch.

while you are at the back end of the car, take off the inner rear panels and check the sunroof drain tubes, make sure they are secure in their little rubber drain boots.
while you have those panels off, pour some water in the channels outside of the hatch weather stripping, let the water run down behind the brake lights and come out under the bumper (its normal) and see if any of it makes it past the brake light gaskets into the trunk area. with the panels off you will see right away.

hey everyone - sorry ive been lacking, been trying to figure out what im going to do about it gettin broken into and all…ill try to address everyone:

darkstarsinner - its been covered before, but not in this thread. i had the rear filler piece custom made by a shop in upstate NY, which is out of business now (as the owners were not the most…honest of guys—short story, i brought them A BUNCH of things to install in my car - one of which was to install my 7lb flywheel. so i go to pick it up MONTHS after i dropped it off when they told me it would take less than a week. they tell me everything is well. i rev the engine and all sounds good! well, months pass, i put my 1st LS into a sappling no bigger than my thigh and total it. so i have EVERYTHING taken out of my LS, bought the GS-R and had a buddy swapp all for me. in the process he calls me to let me know theres a stock flywheel in my tranny…i paid those guys thousands of $$ and not only did they not perform the job, they stole my parts. at this point they were already out of business so i felt the damage was done.) WOW im sorry that turned out to be longer than expected…so - yea, i love the piece and at least they did good work when they worked! hahaha

sulewsky - nice to meet a local G2IC’er! ive yet to seafoam it but i am DEF going to!

edcura - thanks for the advice man. my brakes are rough right now, ive got the ABS light on and they are just veryyy touchy. which is OK i guess haha. i have new rotors and pads to install all around, ill see how they feel thereafter - thankfully no squeaky belts…although i found out my red top is dead haha

Laydee_Mini - thanks! shes out for a while !

and Malformed - thanks for all that info man! def going to take care of a few things from your list! and keep up the work on ur LS - trust me i never thought my car would look lke it does now when i bought my first LS about…7-8 years ago…crap i think im dating myself here hahahah

~~ just to let you all know, im not sure if you saw my thread about it being broken into and my thread as to whether or not im going to sell it. i have decided to keep her. i should be getting the window replaced this weekend and get a new battery. then, gotta find a garage near by and see if i can find someone to install a kick ass alarm…lol

thanks again everyone

a lot of what i posted can be done over time.

like one day, get a tube of dielectric grease and go to work on it…
same with conditioning the rubber & stuff, greasing the hinges, etc.
for a while after i got the car i would do little things like that every weekend.

my car is a lost cause though, too much body damage and the engine is 184k miles.
you can see pics here, http://www.makeitstop.org/car/ and http://www.makeitstop.org/teg/ for closer pics of bends and stuff like the bent up radiator support.

if i were to do it all over again i would order a newer engine from japan and get a shell that was in better shape and work from there.
at this point i wouldn’t mind buying something in better shape and using this one as a parts car/beater.

Damn that sucks man, sorry to hear you got screwed over. Some people are just so shady.

Mind throwing up a link to the thread with the filler discussion? I tried searching but found nothing.
That or let me know if it is a full carbon fiber piece or just a wrap??

i did a really quick search and didnt come up with anything, itd be a few years old at this point ne how man.

and - it is a wrapped piece.
