coming out of storage...

ladies and gent’s - its a pleasure. been a few years since ive posted. the DB2-B18C has been in storage for 1.5-2 yrs now. and i just got it covered under my insurance policy and its time to come out (plus, im getting kicked outta that garage, lol)

so, i have a lot of work to do on it , however i want to get it up and running and to my house (as it is in the inner city at the time, in storage) i have new rotors and pads all around, new front L & R tie rods, gotta wire the JDM mirrors, get new front speakers, got 2 new front tires, gotta put the JDM moldings on…i think the list continues, but you get the jist

i plan on giving it an oil change w/ filter (obviously) before anything - however, i am wondering if there is anything else i should do before starting her up again.

i will make sure bolts are tight and what not. am i missing anything? ive been out of the car world for a while now, was getting my life in order for a bit there lol.

thanks and im glad to be bak!

oh, and here she is, circa 2008

clean battery and post.
clean starter
clean engine bay
clean interior
check fluids-coolant
clean,clean,and clean.

good luck

thanks man - i def plan on cleanin the ever-lovin-piss outta her lol - check the coolant level, def gotta remember to do that, thanks!

what i am really looking for is: is there anything i should do prior to starting her up and driving her to my place before the cleaning starts?

will the brake fluids and such be ok? ill flush them as the summer progresses, my main concern at this moment is to get the car out of its current location

thanks again

tow it. way easier than risking a dry rotted tire, seized caliper, or any other potentially hazardous situation.

well, i would love to tow it. there are 2 things stopping me from doing same.

1 - the car is well too low. the last time i had it towed, by a flatbed none-the-less, they tore my CF lip to shreds and refused to replace it

2 - i can not afford it.

having said that. i have rolled it in and out of the garage on an occasion or two and the tires do look ‘ok’. also, the drive would less than 20 min.

you really think i should be worried about tire rot? i bought 2 new tires as my front tires need replacing…i should have bought 4?

thanks fellas for your input

good chance the battery is tired, slow charge it or get a portable battery jumper.

Lubricate the cylinder walls prior to starting, either with fogging oil or just regular motor oil and hand turning the crank.

Is that a FAL window I see?

well i have a red top optima battery that was hooked up to a charged…come to find out the charger has gone missing. so i will have to get to the bottom of that.

ive never lubricated the cyl. walls, but that certainly makes sense. thanks!

and yes sir, Phantisy, that is most definitely FAL~i love it, although it is scratched like a MF-er. i have the ‘special cleaning’ crap, but still man, scratches so easily. just an FYI to anyone considering it…although the weight savings…incredible.

Would love to see the car… make a trip down to VA lol… j/k Sounds like a nice setup… Should of had a trust worthy friend start it every once in a while when it was sitting but I am sure it will come out okay as long as you oil the cylinders. Hope everything works out when you get it back on the road

thanks man - yea i love the car - i tell people im afraid of it in 1st gear…they think im crazy until they drive in it…lol crazy TQ for a honda…love it

now…this oiling of the cyl walls…how do i do this?

just use my regular 5W-30 with my finger and then just crank the crank manually? sorry to sounds noob-ish, just want this to go seamlessly

and ACTUALLY man, i MAY be taking a trip down that way this summer, depending on how things go, my buddy may be moving from Seattle to DC, if that happens, ill let you know man. be great to get together with some like minded integra owners!

Well I know a few people that would probably roll along in their da’s. Anyway I think you have to oil the top side of the cylinders by taking out the plugs and putting a tiny bit of oil down inside and using a socket and ratchet to crank the pulley. Don’t quote me I am pulling this out of my ass. Never done it and never seen it done but that is my educated guess.

doing this oil in the spark plug hole could also foul the plugs. i’d look to see if an expert would recommend this first.

hmm… This is what I found on a Porsche thread:

"take the coil-plug off and run the engine on the starter for a couple seconds, to move some oil around to lubricate before it runs… Oh, and don’t forget to put the coil-plug back on before you start her! " We have no coil plug but gives you the basic idea.

“My usual drill for engines that have sat for extended periods of time is to take out the spark plugs, and use an oil can to apply some marvel’s mystery oil (or equiv.) into the cylinders. I let it sit like that for about 24 hours, and then try to turn the engine over by hand. Assuming this goes well, I leave the plugs out and crank the starter looking for oil pressure. Then put the plugs back in and fire it up. Make sure this new engine has fresh / clean oil and fuel.”

I remember this car before you bought her from Matt and swapped over everything from your previous car. (If I am remembering correctly.)

Cool to know you still have it either way. If this is Matt’s old car I had my first VTEC experience in it.

sigh still waiting for my first VTEC experience lol

Phantisy - thanks for that info man! def going to help!

and 92acuraattack, you are correct. my first teg, RIP, was totally (bent frame) so i bought Matt’s GS-R and swapped everything out; back in the day when i had $$ lol

it worked out great cause he had it set up basically for the track and mine was set up for … well, i guess raw power haha - couldnt have asked for a better combo!

i thought VTEC was overrated cause my 1st experience was in a 94+ teg…once i got the B18C…wow. poor mans turbo for sureee lol

look for spiders i left mine sitting just for a month with one of the windows a lil open and I found spider webs but never seen the actual spider then one night driving back home that shit landed on my hand came down the sun visor scary shit man

Update

well, folks. she lives.

took about 4 hours to do an oil change, lol, but she started RIGHT up. then died haha. then started again, gave her some gas and steady as she goes, idling at about 250-400 RPM’s…really low, whole car shakes like a tank, gotta fix that. ne ideas?

thanks everyone for your help. ill be posting some ‘help’ topics today if ne one cares to chime in !

thanks again everyone!

Did you get new fuel in it and how about the fuel filter? If it was me I would also get plugs, wires, cap, and button. How did lubing the cylinder walls go?
