Nice work man just readall 13 pages glad to see its back on the road last year at the 604 meet you were rollin a dark blue DA hope to see you again this year:rockon:
Hey Steve,
Car is running with a partial tune on my old motor, allways working on it when I find time, suspension, steering quickner, removing bits of weight…. the second engine is partially complete, head is finished, and the bottom end is waiting for Chiaki to return from Japan with some pistons.
Finally some updates (minor!) … Marc if you read this, what did your car last weigh in at? Beautiful job you’ve done!
Recently moved into a new place where both cars can be in the same garage, now I can work em both! For the most part just been organizing the garage and last night started removing sound deadening and ran the car for the first time in a month. Couple snaps!:
New wheels for the blue DA:
Hopefully I can make more progress this year on the suspension and interior, and get a full proper tune in on Hondata.
Looks great steve. Not sure about that white mesh though.
if the mesh was sprayed black to blend it would look sweet
wow… to all the new people, you really need to read all the pages to appreciate this build…
Thanks guys! Chris that’s not white, it’s a silverish that you don’t really notice but the flash from the camera made it appear that way. I needed something there to protect the rad!
nice wheels, the new place isnt too bad either:up:
Just finished goin through all 14 pages, badass work. Props to stickin with a da for 10 years and puttin so much love back into a badass car.
Oh okay, phew! :)…
btw. sorta off topic…
update on that civic with the worn tires… kal tire won’t take responsibility. they won’t even put it on the alignment machine unless he gets new tires. they were making excuses again. (same ones)
So… the way they are treating this situation is pretty lame in my opinion. The reason why he got the alignment there at first was to avoid abnormal tire wear. (new tie rods, upper cntrl arms + align.) They said that they didnt do a full alignment on the car, just did toe adjustment. But I’m pretty sure that’s all they need to adjust. Why was he charged a full 120$ if they didnt do a “FULL ALIGNMENT”.? :p…
He brought it to another shop and they told him there is defenitly toe out. He’s taking it to Curtis on sat. and putting it on the alignment machine. So well see whats goin on with that… I told him to complain about this situation too. lol. :read:
Good to see you’re still at!
Hello Steve,
Very nice, I am envious of the space I am seeing in your pictures. Having some place comfortable to keep your toys always makes working on them so much more enjoyable.
Like people say it is a slippery slope, once you start tearing weight off and you are able to feel the resulting performance increase. It’s a difficult task determining where to stop and still meet your appearance and comfort goals.
Last time I had my car on scales, right around 2000 lbs. When I installed the cage 75+ lbs, I also lost approximately 30 or so lbs of removed bits and pieces from various locations on the car. So if the air is dense on a day when I put it on the scales again I am thinking it should come in under 2050 lbs.
 Holy cow that’s light!
No much left in it or on it. With parts exchange and triming I am confident there is another 100 - 150 lbs to loose and still maintain a stock silhouette apperance.
Marc, you are so very right about having that space to work on the cars, I’ve been dying to have it and finally I can get some work done on them! You’ll have to come out sometime, mainly so I can see your car!
2000lbs is a nice target, I remember Haruki’s car weighing in at around 2100 when he was done (RS no sunroof). I don’t know if I’ll go as far as you and weld in a roof, but I’m thinking everything else possible will go. I’m not concerned with comforts, the daily is for that!
Chris: I don’t know what to tell you about the KalTire out there, sounds like maybe just stay away unless you’re willing to come to my (or any other) store. I don’t know who the guy was I talked to on the phone there, but he didn’t seem to know much, and the service you got is not how I run my store.
Some updates! been working on the interior of late:
Dash removed, heater core removed:
Some of the items removed:
Working on the dash, removing ducting, etc:
Top half of the dash separated:
Removed the foam/vinyl:
Trimmed the trim panel for gauges:
How the two cars sit now!:
Fresh paint and new 1-pieces on the blue DA thanks to an employee driving over my fender:
Racing to get it all done and together by spring! Wanna drive this thing for once!
Hehe, I think I might have a guess at which direction you’re going with that dash . Good to see a nice update
Maybe I missed it but what are your plans for the dashboard?
The dash is a new idea, kinda started pulling it apart (figuring it would break on me as the glue they use is so strong, and the dash was so brittle), didn’t break! So I figured I’d resurface it, and build a gauge panel into it at the same time. Not sure what material I’m going to cover it with yet, all I know is it will be black and has to match whichever seats I choose to put in (still undecided). I’ve been trying to find some pictures of other dashboards that have been re-upholstered (on here anyway), no luck … anyone seen any? I need some ideas.
Anywho, some pics from today … basically fit the piece for the gauge panel (which will be covered in material), and mocked up a temporary panel to lay fiberglass over where the glove box was. I think I will place the A/F meter to the left, where the driver dash vent was, and put 3 or 4 gauges in the center vent area. Pics:
And a little more cleanup of the front floorboard (man this job sucks ass!):
Anyone out there done, or have an idea, as to what to overlay on the floor? (wow i just realized how crappy that pic is … sorry guys)
Either…
A) Do nothing if your going for dropping weight.
B) Spray bedliner in that bitch.
