coolant fan fucked up..HELP!

ok so i have checked all fuses under dash and underhood. all are working chacke all grounds. they are great. i pulled off my cooling fan relay (behind passenger side headlight) everything seems in order. a little corosion but everything chaecked out. yet the cooling fan will not kick on. so we hotwired the fan just to make sure it wasnt the motor. bam. kicked on and was spinning like a champ. there is something somewhere preventing it from turning on when it should. i dont feel like replacing a headgasket because the car overheats due to a fucking fan. lol. please help. i have tried all i can think of right now to no prevail… sorry if that sounded confusing.

how about the cooling fan switch thats on the engine which tells the fan to come on when it reaches the certain temp

would the thermostat have something to do with it?
Im not sure, but if the coolant doesnt get to the engine wouldnt that cause it to overheat? Therefore, the fan doesnt know when to turn on??

as “Bill” the Cat would say. “Ack!”
The single wire temp sensor on the block regulates the temp gauge in the cluster. The two wire sensor (TW) in the block, just back of the single wire, sends coolant temp info to the ECU. The big two wire thing next to your radiator drain provides feedback as to when the fans turn on, including the A/C relay to that fan. Make sure those 2 wires are attached.:burnout:
Both relays are in ther engine bay, back or under of the air filter box, I think.

get a aftermaket coolent fan harness

They are around 35 bucks, hook up the sensor bulb to the rad, then you have an adjustable relay to set the temp, plus, you can hook up an additional fan in front of the rad for an extra boost.

works great and u are actually re-engeering the design more efficiently.

+1 on the Fan Switch…I had these problems before. The Fan switch is like a sensor for the fan just like the thermostat for the coolant.

Well check if the plug is working, move it around, unplug it and plug it back. The plug should be green sitting right next to the battery, if that doesnt work then change the fan switch.

thanks for the ideas guys. im riggin (not rigging but u know. it will look nice) a fan switch as we speak. ill let you know the results.

fan switch

not knowing what year your car is, I’ll just tell you what I have come accross. Some tegs have the fan sensor switch next to the drain plug on the radiato, 92-up on thermostat housing, some 90-91 have them next to you oil filter that has a black rubber boot over it(white with green stripe, black). I know this information for certain because I just got done figuring min db1 out. In my case the sensor was next to the oil filter and it takes a 27mm socket to get it out. I’ve been told previosly that it was a 26mm but it is not. I highly reccomend switching your fan as a primary. It is better switched as a bypass. If you leave the fan on too long you can burn out your motor. just my 2 cents.
