So I just bought a B18B engine from attarco and the damb thing is leaking coolant.WTF!! I just dumped 2k into the car and its already crapping out on me. Any way the leak appears to be coming from the cylinder head in the back. The motor wasnt overheating but there was a puddle of coolant under the car. I tried to start it and it wouldnt start. So i waited and let it cool down and it fired right up the temp was normal so i drove it home and it never got past half way. The engine was supposedly inspected by Attarco(leakdown, compression, etc). Should I be worried the head is warped? and how hard is it to replace a cylinder head gasket? I do have some mechanic skills mostly on bikes. let me know what you think and any advice is appreciated?
can u please take some pictures and post them up? a picture says a thousand words and it will help us see what the problem it… thanks. so it doesnt seem to be overheating as you stated… well atleast according to the temperature gauge. is their any smoke coming from the engine bay?.. where is the leak exactly?.. (pictures please) and a head gasket isnt something you’re average HANDY MAN can do. requires to completly remove the head, timing belt. kinda tricky and too many EXPENSIVE mistakes can be made… like not properly torquing down the head bolts… ect well we are here to help… worst case scenario, you will need a new head gasket… but lets stick to basic and maybe it will be an easy fix. and even if it is the head gasket… im sure the company offers some type of start up warranty for this engine…? should of gotten a GSR engine lol =P
If its a puddle under the car and no over heating I doubt it is a head gasket. I would check around the back of the engine along the thermostat housing, following the water pipe to where it meets the block.
Could be a bad o-ring seal on either side of the water pipe, or it could be a hose that is bad. There are hoses behind the motor you cannot see.
Also the no start issue is prolly unrelated to the coolant leak, unless it is leaking onto important wires.
you need to pinpoint where its leaking before we can make any suggestions
