coolant temp sensor? Switch?

Ok I have searched but everyone seems to have a different idea of whats what. I know the temp gauge unit is on the pass side of the head. What is the other two prong plug over there for coolant? Where is the coolant switch and what part number is it? Is it by the oil pressure sensor?

Basically my radiator fan won’t turn on but works just fine when the AC is on. So i’m thinking it’s the switch but I don’t know what part number it is or where exactly it is.

If the fan wont turn on, I’m betting its the Fan Switch. Its the sensor on the Thermostat Housing. Pull the plug from the sensor and jump the two pins (on the harness side) together… if the fan turns on, it’s probably a bad Fan Switch.

I found the teg tip after I posted. Also forgot to mention the car is a 1990 so the switch is on the back of the block. Thats the one I will need to replace won’t it? Any advice on how to do this?

The fan switch in the back is a 27mm socket my fan stop working as well I took out my a/c tho I replaced the switch still nothing then I replaced the fan relay took one from the a/c set up as i took all the a/c out. Well any ways it work it was the relay so if i were you I would replace the relay that is right there by the battery if you need a pic of were it is just let me know

Just loosen the switch, take the switch off and thread the new one on. Though you’re going to leak coolant out so be prepared for that.

As far as I know its that straight forward… thats how I changed mine out, but it was the thermostat-housing mounted switch on mine as its a '93.

But I had the same problem you described in that thread… On the freeway or highway the car is great… as soon as I would stop, say, at a drive through, the temp gauge would spike up. Replaced the switch and it has been fine since.

edit

Yup it could be a relay as well. If its easier to check/replace the relay first, give that a shot. Replacing the switch on the back of the block would be a pain in the ass.

Relay even if they work with the AC on. I realised I was being retarted thanks everyone

Does the ECT Sensor have anything to do with turning the radiator fan on?

Just tested the relay and it clicks over and everything havn’t tested to see if something gets outputted from it. put a ground onto the ECT Switch at the output and the fan kicks on. i installed a new ground for the switch and still nothing. It’s a brand new switch is it a bad one? or could it be something else?
