How much does this cost when the head gasket is blown?? I got a quote for $3000 to $3500 but I also heard that someone did it in 4 hours for $50. What is the deal because right now my car is currently for sale because of the blown gasket.
well a head gasket can be purchased for about $60. as for the labor… most place’s will tell u they need to machine shop your head and all this other bs which brings a price out to about 3k. one of my friends blew his and paid $2,500 due to labor. another bought the gasket and replaced it himself without all the extra shiz for like $70 they both got the same outcome w/ performance.
2500-4000? jeebus christy. labor should be 300-500. even the friggin dealer wouldnt want more than 1500.
probably a good idea to do the intake/exhaust gaskets and all the other seals (they offer a head gasket kit for around 100-180 i think). and you might break a hose or two since theyre probably 10years old so id just replace all the vacuum/coolant hoses (30bucks or so). good luck. that just sux =/
yeah man most places will switch you head gasket for like $300-$500 but alot of places will also try to sell you on other **** to so good luck man dont sell your car just for a blown head gasket, believe me i had a crx running low 11’s and i was so pissed off when my gasket blew i was gonna sell it but im glad i didnt.
If anybody is charging you $3000 for a head gasket he’s making about $500-700 an hour. If you gotta work, that ain’t a bad job! If you have the time and backup transportation, and want to learn something about your car, do it yourself. Other than the basic metric sockets and wrenches, the only special tools you’ll need is a cheap $10 torque wrench (a good thing to have anyway) and the Helm shop manual, and that’s available online for FREE (http://blackteg0.tripod.com/g2integra/id2.html) thanks to a very nice G2IC member. If you can read and turn a wrench, you can do this. It ain’t brain surgery.
You can do a B18C transplant for that kind of cash!!! There trying to retire off of you. I agree with you getting a helms manual and a torque wrench and learning something about your engine. Also, this would be a great time to drop the oil pan and replace the low compression pistons with some higher compression slugs. Just installing ITR pistons would give you 10-12 hp plus better fuel mileage.
Is there an online B18C Helms manual?
I am trying to rebuild a B18C motor and I was wondering if there was an online Helms manual for download somewhere. I thought I might ask since there is a G2 one floating around.
Thanks!
None that I know of. My son had a '94 GS-R and now has a '97 ITR and he knows of none. I also have a B18C1 in my G2 and I’d like to find one too, so if you DO find it, lemme know.

I thought that’s all I needed too. Personally I say if you’ve got access to a high power air compressor (110 psi?) and all necessary tools then do it. I tried to do it myself and couldn’t get a gang of $hit off cause I couldn’t get enought torque to get some main bolts off: underdrive pulley (Yes I tried a strap wrench) and head studs. I broke my 14mm (huskey tools) and stripped one of the bolts using an air compressor that I guess didn’t have enough power to turn it. After so many years of being together some parts don’t like to seperate. Just my advice.

all I know my friend just got a new head gasket on his 94 civic ex and it cost 1200. dunno if that helps.
sounds like someone is getting wallet raped!
that’s TOO much even if you had mahine work done to it. my shop dont even charge that much for a head gasket job. tell you what, pay me that much and i’ll come to you and change it for you at your house. just kidding bro. like everybody else said, it should average between 300-500 bucks and that’s with the head resurface. but if you got head damage(burnt valves, crack head, etc.), then you looking little bit more.
Re: Is there an online B18C Helms manual?
I have done a head gasket on a b17 in under an hour before

There is not one floating around, but it is a good buy from www.helminc.com for $60. Well worth it.
I live in Seattle too so if you need any help or advice just let me know and I will help you out to the best of my ability. You can reach me at mynameisbr1@attbi.com
Also, make sure to download the Engine Rebuild Guide from this site. While your getting that one, grab the Engine Swap Guide too. There is a giant wealth of information in that guide. It is in the teg tips section.

Your right actually, It wasnt on my car. It was on another members car. I built up his b17 for him and accidentally put the head gasket on upside down. When we cranked it over after getting the motor into the car all the oil came right out the back of the engine. That sucked.
We went out and got a new gasket and some dinner and then went back to fix it.
That is the day that I found out that if you have 2 people to hold the head up while you do the gasket that you dont have to disconnect any of the sensors or the manifold coolant lines. Just lift up, clean coolant off of cylinders and off of the deck then slap the gasket on and bolt everything back up…
There was another time that I was working on an accord with 2 other honda techs and we got a head gasket job done in just around 30 minutes. That was one of the techs cars that time.
The only time that I have ever needed to replace a head gasket on any of my cars is when the cam ate into the cam holder and fried the head and cam.

Nope, I am not employed as a mechanic. I have been offered jobs as a mechanic from a few different honda/acura dealers though. I have turned them all down because I like working on cars. I dont think that I would like it if I had to do it every day all day long.
As far as the honda techs go. I used to work at a honda shop when I was like 15 or so with one of my friends who has more experience with hondas than I have in life. I met all the honda guys through him.
My main source of income comes from my business. I own a contracting corporation in Seattle. That is just a fancy way of saying that I am a flooring installer…
