cost of ls/vtec job

well,

i had planned on doing my ls/vtec job myself, but lately i haven’t been up to the job just due to …laziness i guess, but i was wondering what it would cost if i brought this to a shop, this is just an average and not geographically based, btw i’m in south florida, but anyway, this is what i was going to do…

vtec timing belt
vtec water pump
vtec oil pump
new pistons, rings, rods, bearings installed
blueprint of bottom end
put on b16a head, already tapped for ls/vtec
install new clutch
install header

i have all the parts necessary aside from the gaskets, bearings, clutch, and header, but i’m just wondering if it would definetely be worth my while to do it myself, otherwise i’d like to opt to have somebody else take care of it for me

thanks for the responses

if the motor is out of the car then i say do some of it yourself…the less technical stuff.

have the machine shop:
-hot tank
-bore/hone/deck/balance
-assemble bottom end (just the internals…you can easily put all the sensor back on, the oil pump and pan…)

you should be able to put everything else together with some help from the helms manual.

if the motor is still in the car and you’ll have downtime while all the work is being done then it may be a better idea to just have the shop do it all. it depends on how long you can live w/o your car, if you have other transportation, and how committed you’ll be to doing all the work you need to do on the correct time schedule.

I did my swap like i said above (just had the machine shop do the machining and assmebly of internals…i did everything else) and i’m VERY glad i did it that way. the super important and technical stuff i left to the pros…so i’m safe there. and the other stuff was a good learning experience for me, plus it was fun.

how much would it cost to have the machine shop do the whole thing, i think it might be a lot, so i’m gonna have to do it myself.

thanks for the idea though

no idea about the complete assembly. call your local machine shops and see what they say.
