Covering interior plastic in cloth, tweed, suede etc.

Anybody ever do it? I’m curious to see how it looks. I have a few damaged interior panels that I just can’t seem to source decent replacements for, as well as a JDM armrest that’s beyond refinishing with just plastic dye. Mainly the plastic of the hatch area, the plastic part of the JDM armrest, Possibly even the shifter/console trim and driver and passenger knee panels. Some of these panels have nicks, gouges and patches where the texture is worn right out of the panel, so I figured I could fill the deeper scratches and skin them with some nice fabric. Just not sure how it’ll look.
