the electronics problem i am having is getting out of hand and is starting to be a safety hazard. the first thing is that my passenger side headlight is dim and it is not because of the bulb. high beams are barely any brighter than the regular lights, when i put on my fog lights, the lights get more dim. none of my blower motor settings work. when my headlights are on, my INT speed on my windsheild wipers is ridiculously slow, but the middle speed works perfectly, but both work fine when the headlights are off. also, for some reason when my headlights are on, my bumper lights are on all the time but very very dim. i dont know what is going on and its killing me! im thinking it may be a ground, but i dont even know where to start. any suggestions?
have you gotten alternator checked?
i havent had it checked, but wouldnt an alternator effect everything? i.e. both headlights dimming.
Could it be a bad ground at all?
I think your ground behind your passenger side headlight is probably disconnected. I had the exact same problems and found I had disconnected the bundle of grounds that connect to the chassis between the radiator and the passenger side headlight. Check that first.
you wouldnt happen to have a picture of said grounds, would you? i was told by a friend of mine that it probably is the ground near the passenger headlight and i can’t seem to find it.
Actually I do… Just use your imagination to tell where the pics were taken. Its right behind the passenger headlight/foglight.
you are the man! thank you!
Man I had the exact same problems in the past. Wipers were going crazy slow at times on different speeds, one headlight was dimming, fog lights were dimming/half lit, ac fan barely worked ect…Turns out I had a loose connection/shorted wire in my harness under the hood and a bad DRL relay.
I would Re-do all your chassis grounds/power connections with new/good wire/connectors, check your DRL relay under passenger well, remove it and see if it affects anything (mine did it was shorting). When the problem is happening turn off your radio and engine and listen for clicks and sizzles from inside the cabin…The sounds of relays going bad or shorts happening. Then maybe start looking at your harness under the hood and looking for breaks/corrosion/loose connections by visually inspecting it and wiggling wires to see if anything effects anything.
I never thought I would get rid of my problems but slowly but surely (thanks to fcm) I did!
Good luck!
Any results?
well, seems as though when the guys who rebuilt my front end put everything back together, they moved where that ground is, so i have no idea where to find it now! i searched for a good hour or so yesterday. i tried sanding down all of my other grounds i could find to make sure they were making good contact, and nothing yet. ill try it again next weekend i suppose. no time while im back at school
well the thing you and I have in common is that both of us had our front end rebuilt…That speaks volumes.
I would definitely search for a short in the harness somewhere, if you car was in an accident (like mine) the chances are fairly high that something got nipped or cut and is now shorting out.
Look for signs of fraying or damage in the harness especially in those places hardest hit.
Mine was not a common ground problem, it was damaged wiring in the harness along the front pass side fender.
Here is a quote from the thread I posted about my problems…
“Now to make matter worse I’m having all sorts of connected problems. As in, sometimes when I go to turn on the heat the fan will barely run and my passenger side headlight will dim. Also on my speedometer the right turn signal light will illuminate as will the high beam light faintly. Then when I turn on the wipers they will go up fine then return ridiculously slowly.”
…Sound familiar?
Here’s the original thread in case it’s of any help to you.

OH NO’S! I might be in the same boat as you now… :bandwagon: lol.
So mine is a bit more…odd maybe? yea lets go with that.
Had my buddy (who owns a teggy) installing a stereo in my car while I worked on the other car pulling the motor.
Anyhow my stereo is hooked up somewhat abnormally. There is an amp between the speakers and the head unit. Well this is normally straightforward but in this case thats a big negative ghost rider. After the radio was hooked up the car would no longer start. The dash lights slowly faded on, and then instead of the fuel pump buzzing, some stuff in the dash started buzzing LOL! Then when you turn the key for the start the dash made a different buzzing! hahahaha. So I unhooked it all. Pulled the amp power and then tried it. No bones. Dash did a strange buzz. The horn wouldn’t work headlights wouldn’t work fan made the dash do a different strange buzz. At this point it’s snowing like crazy and my car is half way out into the street not starting lol. So I climbed under the dash and theres 2 wires (white with red line) out of the main interior fusebox cut (been like that) and I started fidgiting with the wires looking for stuff grounding unintentionally and found a couple wires from the amp and stuff but nothing really obvious. So then I popped the hood again and disco’d the battery, reconnected it and voila.
So I feel your pain and want to swap ideas with you at this point cuz it sounds like we’ll be in similar boats soon. My lights and such seem to work fine tho…lol
Sorry I’m not trying to thread jack, I’m just having crazy electrical probs and don’t wanna burn a gsr down =(
thanks for getting me a link to that thread, some really great info in there. ill be sure to check that out in a little while. ill letyou now how it goes.
You say they moved your grounds. Can you see the nut welded around the hole where the grounds should be? I would take the headlight and whatever else is needed off of the car and inspect where the wires go after leaving the headlight harness. I believe the coolant fan ground, and possibly other systems grounds are tied into that ground bundle so either its disconnected and moved to another location, or just removed all together which would be causing your problem. Are you having any issues with the cooling fan or any other systems?
Oh…
so could the rad fan cause this kind of stuff too? cuz i have that weird issue where it will kick on randomly or it will run for like an hour after driving sometimes. Even soft driving.
I haven’t had a chance to check that ground.
I hope you get your electric stuff figured out man!! let me know if you find anything.
hondas having electric issues like fords??? what’s this world coming to??
Be glad they aren’t like VW or Volvo electrical issues.
Teggyguy- I don’t know for sure but I would guess your electrical problems have a different cause than the OPs. I only say that because of the different symptoms and the fact that your problem (you think) is because of the problematic stereo install. If I were you I would start by pulling that deck out of your car and making sure there are no exposed wires causing fuses to blow. Make sure its hooked up correctly and that any blown fuses are replaced. Or start your own thread and FCM can help you out.
“Be glad they aren’t like VW or Volvo electrical issues.”
Or Audi…shivers
I love seeing the Brand New Audi RS’s rollin around with one fancy headlight not working lol It makes me laugh everytime. All that money for fancy LED headlight accents and 1 out of 2 of these cars I see have ones that dont work.
At least your car was 20 years old before you started having problems and is normally due to an accident or someone hacking at it. Cant blame honda for that.
Anyway, back to the original OP’s problems…
wow, you are good lol. my cooling fans have not been coming on after driving, but it took me a while to notice since its getting a little cold here and the temp doesnt go up too much anyways. this weekend i will probably pull that headlight out and check to see if the ground is even there anymore since i can’t seem to find it anywhere. my rear defroster also doesnt work, as well as my blower motor, but i think that problem is from the ICU. those two things didnt work even before the accident though.
