CRV B20 block and LS B18 head do they work

i have a 98 or 99 honda crv with a bad head on it. i also have a 90-93 b18a integra head. can i put the b18a1 head on the crv b20 block. i have asked around locally and everyone but one person said it will work. all i have to do is use all the crv parts. valve cover, intake manifold, distributor, ect. but i also have a problem with cams and cam gears i dont have them for the b18 head. can i put the crv ones on the b18 head. will the car have engine codes ect… any help would be great. this is an auction car and i just need it to run and i am supposed to get it done tomorrow… please help… thanks

Wait, so you’re saying that you’re keeping the B20 in the CR-V right?

You need to be specific on the years of BOTH the CR-V & the Integra. The 98 CR-V is a B20B. The 99-00 CR-V is a B20Z. Adversely, the 90-91 teg is OBD0. The 92-93 teg is OBD1. See how things can get murky?

Is this a hypothetical question, 'cause you don’t seem to know jack about either kind of car. No offense, just calling it like I see it.

If you are keeping the B20 in the CR-V, you’d use the B20 parts on the B18 head. If the B20 is going into the teg, you need to read this:
http://g2ic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43320&highlight=b20

The head should fit, as should the cams, etc. The CR-V B20 head is 99% identical to the 96+ B18b. Our B18A1 heads are similar to the 96+ B18B heads, except that the newer model heads flow better.

In simple terms of will the parts fit on each other, then yes. However, the B20 should be using the B18B or B20 heads for optimal results.

Oh, if the B18a1 head is OBD 0, you may run into some problems, I’m not 100% on that. As far as I know, you would use the B20s injectors, intake mani, distributor, header, fuel rail.

Yes, use the B20 cams in the B18A1 head. They are the same as B18B cams, which fit in the B18A1 head.

Hope all this helps. Good luck w/ everything.

BTW- is that your torino red teg? It looks sick. Nicely done.

Figure that out!

the b20 non vtec head has hella bigger valves too

It will work just use all the external crv parts. This is what you need to do one take the intake manifold of the old head and just leave it in the car harness attached and all ( no need to remove any of it) Unbolt the header of the old head and let it drop down. Now take of the distributor and unplug all the harness from the sensors on the head. Take of the valve cover loosen the tesioner and take the T-belt off. After this the rest is cake. Below are something that I would get and do to the new head before you place it on the B20 block.

Have the head cleaned and checked for flatness.
New Valve seals they are cheap.
New T-belt and Water pump.
Cam seals.
Valve cover seals.

proof?

B20=2.0L
B18a/b=1.8L

will the extra bore over work?

like h93da6 said… the heads are basically the same. (P75)

with the exception of the P8R head

No they’re not.

yeh i was gonna call that bluff

what size is the b18a/b valve sizes???

im looking at building a b20 but not real keen on vtec head (expensive compared to left over b18b)

if u put lumpy cams in and ur running non vtec technically itll be as good as a LS vtec

the VTEC head still flows better than the LS.

also the camshaft choices you have with non-VTEC aren’t as many as with VTEC, not to mention the lift and duration of aftermarket cams are usually greater than that of non-VTEC.

I strongly disagree. No matter how well you port the LS head it wil never flow as well as a equally ported VTEC head.

stock ls valves are 31mm/28mm.

Thing that sucks about building a b20 is that you can only get forged pistons. So if you want to get high compression, you have spend a bit of dough to get it.

also not true

Guess they’ve never heard of RS or Spark racing huh? lol people…

ive seen resized f20 gear used in a b20 locally

i might just bite the bullet and get the vtec head maybe a turbo aswell :stuck_out_tongue:

So where are there cast high compression b20 pistons
