CRX Rack in DA

So i’ve searched honda tech, here, and some others and want to get my facts right . . .

To bolt it up 110% with out any special washers or bolts and shit I just need the cross member and rack from any 88-91 crx/civic and bolt it up? I don’t need to do this but I read on one post doing this will save some weight on top of all the power steering stuff that is ripped out and i’m trying to lose every pound i can. car’s a weekend warrior so creature comforts are nothing to me. thanks guys.

Let me know if you need some help, I’m looking to do the same thing to my teggy since its leaking anyways :danger:

I know some model Civics/CRX have less turns (turn ratio?). This might be something to look into…

ya i don’t really get most of that turn ratio crap lol i just want to do it for peace of mind instead of re looping or having the open holes were the lines used to be and on one of the posts it said it ways a lil less so just me lookin for every advantage i can find ya know

for a fact civic/crx manual racks have MORE turns lock to lock than our oem racks it only is a big diff if your a track whore ive heard that its good and bad i think it would deff be better than looping a rack if you want it to be reliable -prob spelt that wrong but im a little buzzed LOL:up:

if you get the quafie gear set for the rack its better

quaife rack & pinion kit

http://www.jhpusa.com/store/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=1877&idcategory=171

IIRC. There was about an extra 3/4 of a turn from lock to lock when I did this swap

I used the swap kit that dan the guru made. That’s a lot easier then swaping out that cross member
If your realy concerned with it then get the qulife kit

turn to turn lock crap im not concerned about, im looking to save as much wait as possible, be reliable, and not need some special washer or spacer to bolt in. I want straight oem honda love here. thanks for all the feed back guys so far

This is interesting I didn’t know about the subrframe swap. I just used the manual rack with the DA subframe and all I needed was a little aluminium spaced to make up for the smaller diameter rack. 4.2 turns lock to lock. Talk about flailing arms lol. I though it was a bit ridiculous since its a downgrade from the original steering ratio so I went with the qauife rack. 2.2turns lock to lock, now I can make u-turns and entire laps without moving my hands on the steering wheel.

Thats awesome where did you find the Q-rack?

King Motorsports should have. Thats where I got mine.

so whats my best option as far as money and reliability? do I just swap out my current p/s rack and get a crx manual rack or can I just get this rack kit and install it in my current rack?

I need help with this since I just pulled out all my p/s lines and pump and ended up looping some fittings, and the rack just starting to leak from arms.

If you’re having problems with the rack and have to change it out anyway I would suggest the civic/crx rack. 50$ at a salvage yard and 25$ for the aluminium spacer you’ll need to mount it. Just remember to get the non si rack if you eventually plan on going with the qauife short ratio kit.

yeah I think the easy thing to do is getting a crx manual rack for less complications. What spacer do I need, is it something i can go out and get or have it made?

We had a member on here who was making them i duno if he still is. Try finding the rack swap thread shouldnt be to hard and it includes pictures and the member to cantact if you need a spacer. If he can`t make one for you its as simple as measuring the diameter of both racks at the mounting point and having any machine shop make a sleve/spacer to make up for the smaller diameter of the civic/crx rack

yeah I shot him a email on the subject to ask if he had any spacers left and I never got a reply. now what do I do.

Get the manual rack and measure the difference in diameter of both and the width of the bushing and find a michine shop. Thats exactly what I did and any shop you find should be able to do it.
Come to think of it, they mentioned the specs of the sleeve in that thread somewhere

Find the p/s removal thread. If you can’t source one of the billet spaces refer to that thread to see what people were doing before hand. Iirc. I was running both bushings for the rack and just using a coplu washers to angle the rack properly

Ya I’ll be honest I don’t like the sound of that and I been driving on a power rack that I just yanked all the lines off of for about 5 years now. No looping, no resevoir, or anything of that sort. I just yanked EVERYTHING and drove it to this day still no issues but for the sack of weight savings is what got me started on looking up this information. I’ll just keep looking and hopefully find the answer or do it myself just to find out.

let me know what you end up doing if anything cuz I really want to change mine out.
