My draw on the Battery is 0.39. As I pulled the 7.5a under hood fuse, the draw went to 0.02. I didn’t want to leave that fuse out because it controlled other things, so I put it back in. One of those “things” I wanted to diognose first was the “automatic seat belt control unit”. I unplugged the connectors from the unit- checked the draw- and it read "0.02.
Swapped it with “two” junkyard control units. Both still had a 0.39 draw.
Installed the original control unit and unplugged the passenger seat belt connector under the seat- drain test 0.22
With that still disconnected, I also disconnected the drivers seat belt connector- drain test- 0.04 to 0.05. Is it the seat belt solonoid? or the control unit?
My seat belts work fine but once in a blue moon the belt retractor locks while the belt on the track is trying to go back.
These parts are very expensive at the dealer, And I don’t want to buy the part thats not needed. What do you think is the culprit?
Thanks FCM but I’d like to know the problem for myself first rather than a pesky dealer mechanic that is not familiar with g2s anymore for they work on the newer type acuras now.
Sure I’ll take it back there for the warranty when I find out for myself what the culprit is. Once I found out what the prob is, I’ll have them pay for it.
…Plus I get a kick out of troubleshooting this. I’m going to borrow a known working control unit from a buddy and test the draw. If there’s no draw on his, than my unit is bad. I’ll start from there.
Okay, I did some crazy troubleshooting last weekend and found out that three junkyard automatic seat belt control units($10 for all of them btw) were still giving me the same reading 0.39. What!! this can’t me a coincidence. So I traced it from the unit to the belt solenoid retractors. (there attacted to the seats near the e-brake.) So low and behold, when I unplugged those retractors, the draw test went down to 0.03. I even unplugged them one at a time and with the passenger disconnected the reading went to 0.22? Plugged back the pass and unplugged the drivers- test drain 0.22? huh the same?
I feel defeated. Weary. Narrowed it down to the seat belt solenoids (retractors) thinking 99 percent sure it was them that was giving exsessive current draw… it wasn’t. I did a free swap at the junkyards and both of them still gave a 0.39 parasitic draw.
There are millions of integras out there that I’m sure have the same problem as I but haven’t posted it up in here yet. Or couldn’t figure out why there car wouldn’t start if left unstarted for a day or two.
So that said, I unplugged the main box that controls the seatbelt system. (Auto seat belt control unit).
If any electrical gurus come across this pls help a fellow member out. thanks. I’m stumped.
i’m not very familiar with this system, but if you can get ahold of schematics see whether there’s supposed to be current going to the module even with key off… there might be a short somewhere supplying current to it when there shouldn’t be? if you find a schematic, please post… i’m curious to see it…
no. Okay you gave me some motivation. I’ll send the diagram when I get the digital camera. I’m kinda lazy to solve this. And I dont think anybody here can. Hopefully you will.
i dunno how skilled you are with electrical, but if you could make a breakout harness from the sbcu to the components it would make things much easier to diagnose… i guess start by getting your dvom in series with the red/grn and blu/yel to see if there’s any current being drawn by the solenoid… so just to confirm there’s 2 seperate sbcu’s? one each for driver and passenger? better yet, if you’re ambitious enough get a current draw reading from the motors and switches too… lemme know!
another thing i noticed, you said you unplugged the unit and got 0.02 amps draw… you’re sure you using the dvom properly? i dont doubt you, i just want to confirm things…
Sorry for disappearing, I went on vacation… How about you just install a battery shut-off switch to all your electronics and then run a seperate line to your radio, ecu and alarm(?)… Problem solved! If you were closer I’d come and help you…
I need a vacation too. I thought of that too, but my other bandaid fix was just to unplug the Automatic seat belt control unit. And yes I changed this unit like 5 times one was from known working one.
I’d like to find out one day what the culprit is. I’m just that kinda person that likes to know what the problem is.
