Ok i was wondering what you guys think about 2 1/2" custom
piping with-say an obx b5 bomb exhaust? I’m going to put a jdm
b20 in so that why i’m going w/ 2 1/2" vs 2 1/4" . Will this setup
give me as much HP gain as a catback system like the racing
medallion etc? If i put a highflow cat on w/ the 2 1/2" piping will i
loose a lot of torque or even hp- how about on a b18a/b setup?
BTW i drive a 92 red gs(5spd) and my “mods” are shortram
intake, good ignition wires, and new spark plugs.
I think custom piping is fine. Exhaust doesn’t do much for performance anyway, so non-mandrel bends aren’t gonna make much of a difference.
I see. How about the high flow cat. Won’t that affect torque?

It depends on how clogged your current cat is. My cat was not clogged too bad, so I don’t think I gained all that much. But now that I know my cams are running a tad rich, it’s nice to know I have a cat that flows well enough for a 5L engine.
If you get the Custom piping like me, make SURE to have a renonator put on or it will sound like an angry bumble bee. Unless of course that sound is appealing to u.
Yeah, the resonator is the key to a good-sounding custom exhaust. The muffler really makes no difference.
Raspy all the way!!! that sound is soo cool.
Resonator? where do i purchase this? and where is it placed?

The exhaust should have them, they’re very common on exhausts. It is placed after the cat but before the muffler.

Agreed, and this comes from personal experience.

do the obx welds on hte tip/end stand out? it looks like the tanabe/apexi are seamless. i hate spending more than 2x as much

lol angry bumble bee
resonator- what if you only get the muffler? where do you get one. i read something about just having a pipe in there.
All exhaust shops should have plenty of resonators.
so how can you tell what kind of sound you want? do they temporarily clamp the resonator on to see how it sounds first? wing it? just ask if you want high or low? what if you have no idea how the muffler sounds…

You just wing it, I would be willing to bet you’d be happy with any universal muffler, 2.25" piping, and a resonator. Our cars all sound similar anyways.
you can use a glass pack for a resonator.
what exactly is a resonator?
