Hang with me on this one before you flame away. I do realize that you can “clear out” 90-91 tails. However, what I am looking for are 90-91 tails that are completely cleared out. I am wodnering if there is anywhere to get a pair that would resemble the 90-91 tail but have the opacity of the tails in the link.
Has anyone seen these. I like my “cleared out” tails and I hate euro or Altezza’s but am wondering about these.
Yes, they used to make them (I think that is how APC got started basically). Illegal in many states though, and I think they were banned from being sold in the US. Check fleaBay maybe? They did not look as nice and clear as OEMs though, they tended to be kind of foggy.
You do know… You can take apart the tail lights and remove the white/pink lines in the 90-91 so its just complete see through… Same as 92-93 tail lights, Only difference is the orange in them is a plastic piece you can take out.
i’ve seen 90-91’s completely cleared out and they look like ass literally… 92-93’s don’t look half bad because it has the horizontal lines in it. inside the housing, it’s a grey (not chrome) so you’d have to put chrome tape inside to get the bling effect, or just keep it grey so it looks smoked.
Here is a pic of the OEM 92-93 tails and the ones the pictured above, only painted. The painted ones didn’t last 6 months in this florida sun. They leaked, and the sockets that hold the bulb plugs were really shabby.
Looking at the oem ones next to the painted ones… makes me wonder, :wtf: was I thinking!
Here is a pic of the 90-91 tails with the pink removed aka “cleared”.
And on the car.
Hopes this helps you make up your mind.
You could also take apart the oem tails and remove the entire plastic piece that has the lines on it. Kinda resembles the prelude tails in the link more.
The diffrence between the 90-91 tails… and the 92-93 tails… is that you have to take apart the 92-93 tails to clear them.
The 90-91 tails can be cleared with some simple green or some other cleaner.
these started out as completely clear tails. i bought them specifically for this purpose after trying to do this to a set like the aftermarket ones pictured above. i used tamiya clear red paint (not thinned) and a high quality, very hard drying model clear coat. the clear coat is great, but when applied it ate away some of the red paint on the very edge; you can see this along the top of the red.
if you would have paid a bit more attention to the way the 90-91 tails look vs. 92-93, you will see the upper portion (turn signal/reverse) lense is very different between the two years.
then maybe you’ll actually see why people do this to their 92-93 tails.
