CV axle replacement?

I took some pics of the part thats jacked up. It makes a clanking sound when driven and the boot is ripped and the shaft connecting the two boots freely moves 1/2 inch or so in both directions .
How about a write up on how to replace this part? Anyone got a link to one?

Is this a job best done by a shop or can an informed and determined enthusiest tackle this repair in a few hours or so?
Special tools needed?

Have you attempted to search for a thread on replacing an axle?

There are quite a few on here…

If its the driver side axle i believe you will first have to drain the transmission fluid from your tranny first. There should be a plug on the passenger side (10 or 14mm) of the transmission. Removing the 1/2 shaft or axle looks alot harder than it is. I just replace both axles on my DA and I found a write up I thibnk on honda-tech or on this site, just google it. My advice is use a mallet or hammer and a good screwdriver and or pry bar. Getting that sucker out can be a real bitch. i accually had to have a mechanic use a bolted down vice and a hammer at full swing in order to knock it out. Then again I had rust and iron shavings wedged in the snap ring. Also do not forget to get some standard grease on the splines before reinstalling. You will spend anywhere from 2-4 hours but will save good money and gain some experience. Good luck buddy!
