Guys, my Honda agent has informed me that my cylinder head gasket is GONE!!! I have coolant evaporating (that is why I had it checked). They are saying the cost will run up close to 800 US$ for the work and parts…
With my moderate experties and my Helm’s manual, do you believe I should attempt fixing it my self???
I did it. Its a biatch. You have to take apart everything that runs or attachs to your head & intake manifold.
Do you have a family mechanic? or do you have alot of experience with engines? Make sure u got 1 or both…cuz its alot of work.
A good advice i can give u is that after you take everytihng apart, you should get the head to a machine shop to machine it to spec because its probably a bit warped. AND get a complete head gasket set (140$) and replace all the seals & gaskets that come in that set.
another advice is make sure you have EVERYTHING plugged back in, reconnected, and crimped, when you’re done. cuz i had 2 big az leaks cuz i forgot to reattach a tube and/or left sumthin off.
Labor is about a good 12 hours or more. One good thing is that you don’t have to take off your bottom end, juss ur cylinder head.
New oil & filter: 15
New antifreeze: 5
New pcv valve tubing: 5
New plugs: 10
New head gasket(s) set: 140
New Water Pump: 60
New T-belt: 40
Machine Job: 120
Cleaning Fluids: 20
Total: 415$
Now that i rethink it took me about a week to get it done. So its probably more than 12 hours of labor. Most of my time was waiting on the machine shop to get done with my cylinder head. If you take it to the mechanics to do, they do the machining for you, etc. I would juss get a new engine…
I’m selling the car man!! I got a bad clutch, broken axel, burned engine head gasket, bad tires, possible EACV problem… what more??? and this car has only 80K km on it (geniuen)!! I’m selling, as much as I love it, I have too…
damn thats alot. But if you have patience and time, You can get all of that fixed within two-three weeks. EACV valve can be replaced when you do your head gasket. With only 80km your suspension, bearings, bushings should all be in good condition, its juss your engine has sum negligence to it from whoever use to own it.
PLus you’ll learn alot from the experience of working on your car. Consider your options, hope the better decision gets to you.
