I been procrastinating on my 90 Integra forever now and finally snapped my timing belt. So, I am throwing another head on with a 00’ LS head and want to build the old head into something nice. In the Honda world, all you hear is VTEC this and VTEC that, im getting tired of all that lame shit and want to build an LS BEAST! Now I must face the problem of finding parts for a Natural Aspiration LS engine. Im not finding much of anything online. Everything is VTEC engines first. I want to be a VTEC killer with an LS block. I’ll keep you guys informed when I start my build.
Raise the compression via pistons before you throw that head on if you are not planning on using a power adder.
Vtec killer lol. Can be done but for the money why?
@Decep, I am planning on buying another B18A1 and rebuilding it with all internals and everything done.
@Sirtef, Have you ever lost to an LS before? Now, imagine that you did. How would you feel after handing over a wad of money to the LS engine owner? I see the great potential of sleeper VTEC killer as something fun to do. Everybody I know has VTEC and when you hit the streets up on the weekends at the meets, everybody wants to make money off of a dumb LS owner. So why not play extra dumb and instead of identifying my car as rebuilt with forged internals etc etc, I can say, “I’m a fast car because when I bought it, the old owner said he put something on the car that makes it sound loud and lets me beat corvette’s” (Insert extremely unintelligent facial expressions and entry level ricer performance terminology)
Other then that, it would be nice to show people what an LS block can produce since nobody owns one. I prefer the sleeper car over the obvious DOHC VTEC sticker or SI badge on my car that can out perform the performance models.
There are plenty of threads of NA LS builds. HondaTech is full of them.
To make BIG power (200+whp) will not only cost a lot of money, but you sacrifice driveability because of how wild your cam-profiles will be. Low end power and idle will likely be a bitch.
That’s why vtec is such a “fad”… Because it’s functional. You have much better driveability on the low end, and great performance on the top end cam profile. It’s not that people don’t think an LS can make power, it’s that the vtec motors typically respond to mods much better than non-vtec motors.
If you’re wanting the best functional bang for the buck, vtec motors are the way to go. If you’re “wanting to beat people at the meets” and go with the less common LS powerplant, be ready to pay a decent amount and sacrifice a few things.
As with anything else, do research and see what it costs to get the results you’re looking for.
