Daily Driving/Weekend Racing Build

I have a '91 LSS that is completely stock with 91k miles on it. It has been in my family since it rolled off of the lot and my younger sister gave it to me when she went into the Airforce.

It has become my daily driver as it is in such good shape and looks very nice.

I have the oppertunity to race it a couple of times a year. Twice (solo style)on the same road track (actually a kart track) and twice on a hill climb event. This is through the Sports Car Club of VT.

I want to set it up a bit better for the track, yet still retain a decent ride on the street. Pretty much style and function is what I am looking for.

I recently purchased a set of H&R Sport springs for it but still need to get shocks.

That is all that I have purchased so far for it. My budget is limited so I need to do things in steps.

First track race (June 11 I think) will likely be as it sits in the driveway right now. Stock with 195/14 Ziexs on it. Should be interesting to see the difference from then until the second one in September after I have modded it a bit.

I am hoping you all will help me as I learn about my 'teg and you’ll be able to watch as it and I grow together.

Here come the questions:

I have my springs.

Will a front camber kit from a late 80s/early 90s Civic work on my teg?
I have a friend that has one I can have.

What “best bang for the buck” shocks should I get?
I cannot drop $5-600 for adjustables right now.

I will be getting 15" rims this summer and Azenis.
What size should I run?
205s? 215s?

What else can I do to my DAs suspension that will not break the bank and will fit my needs?

Beyond those mods, I will be chipping away at some minor engine stuff. Mostly cia and header/exhaust. Nothing major yet.

A good but somewhat budget suspension is my priority.

Any help would be great.

budget shocks: KYB AGx
Tire Size: Depends how wide your 15s are…if they are 7", go for the 215 as they will give you better traction, but if you’re running a 6.5" rim, then get 205s as the 215s will bulge quite a bit.

Other suspension mods: WEIGHT REDUCTION…it’s free
If you’re doing the install yourself, replacing your suspension bushings with something stiffer will help (they are cheap to buy, but the install is the killer if you’re paying somebody else to do it). The best bang for the buck suspension mod would be a sway bar. Slap on a rear sway bar and you’ll love the way your car handles.

that’s all I can think of right now…

PS: Your car will soon start to lean more towards being a track car over time…i started the same way

What are the allowable mods that you can make for the class you are competing in?

Right now, I am classless. I will be going as a guest.

At the road track it is solo. I don’t care how I do against the full race prepped guys. I just want to drive fast and push my teg legally.

Same thing at the hillclimbs, just me and the clock.

All I need is to have an approved helmet and pass the tech inspection.

My friend that invited me along has a pretty built 1960 something Mini that is fast enough that he has to get nomex for the hillclimbs etc. He is 100% into it and races for points or something.

I have not read into their modification structure as all I really want to do is go fast and play.

It is nice to be able to do this.

KYB AGX’s are a solid deal, but they only make the fronts for our Gen 2’s, so you will have to go with Tokico Illuminas for the rear, or just go all 4 Tokico.
