Was driving home just peachy yesterday at night when my console lights all went out. The turn signal lights, e-brake light, etc. all work when provoked, but the backlighting on all the dash gauges and climate control buttons won’t come on. The digital clock doesn’t dim either. However, the headlights work perfectly fine when turned on. I haven’t had any problems like this before…
Come to find out today, that my rear parking lights aren’t functioning either. My rear turn signals, brakes, and hazards work fine, but when the headlights are on, the dim parking lights on the back and the license plate light don’t come on at all.
I checked the fuses, and the one for the gauges/parking lights/etc. appeared to be blown, but when i replaced it, nothing changed, and all the lights are still out.
I’m in urgent need of a diagnosis and means to repair.
so recently, i’ve been acquiring a lot of water in the spare tire bay in the back of the car. it’s filled so much (in storms) that it overflows into the back seats/foot areas. never had any electrical problems.
recently, i’ve discovered that the source of the leak is a bad seal around both my brake light assemblies, which leaks profusely.
again, though, never any electrical issues until now
so, with this recent developement, i figure the issues is related to the brake lights
i unplugged the console dimmer control (which i’ve read is known to fail) and the fuses continue to blow
i removed all the tailight bulbs (in the rain) and the fuses continue to blow
i’ve exhausted all my guesses, and now i have no idea
If you have an aftermarket HU, [stereo] in your dash, pull it out and make sure the red/black lead in the stock radio harness is not shorting out to anything.
Many aftermarket HUs do not have an illumination and the stock illumination lead, [red/black] is not used, if not capped off properly it can short out and blow the park light circuit fuse, [fuse 11 -15A].
Even if the HU has an illumination lead and it is connected to the stock lead it may be “pinched” between the back of the HU and the stock rear support brace.
Both the above are very common problems when aftermarket HUs are installed in G2s and the symptom is a blowing park light circuit fuse. 94
