Dashpot vacuum/Intake Help

ok first off i don’t know how the stock intake is and if u put one on how many vacuum lines would be out. I brought the car the way it is with a short ram intake. On the 2nd (under the hood sticker) and 3rd (helms manual) picture it shows the dashpot and dashpot check valve connecting to the stock intake. As u can see in the first picture i dont even have a dashpot and the tube that suppose to be connected to the dashpot from the intake is just pluged up with a screw. Found out the other bigger tube from the intake (yellow big tube) is a breather for the engine (forgot what its called).
My question is 1- what does the dashpot and dashpot check valve do?
2- Do i NEED a dashpot and check valve?
3- I did a search and read that people use a T or Y connector for those vacuum tubes but there is only 1 tube from the intake to connect to the dashpot. what other tube am i suppose to connect a T or Y connector to? except the tube from the intake and dashpot
4- Around how much would a dashpot and check valve cost? and where can i get one?

Its not affecting anything not having the dashpot
there. Im thinkin maybe it was off to clear the strut bar,
but maybe not- cant tell.

I also have a 93 (or if yours is a 92 whatever) and all that runs to the stock arm is the crankcase breather that you have hooked up in yellow, and the line thats plugged just goes to the dashpot.

On 90-91 Integs I think they had to use a tee line cause they have 2 little hoses to go to the arm as opposed to just one.

At any rate, you can get that piece if you really want of of another LS. The dashpot diaphram is just another emmisions piece. It does not have any effect on how the car runs.

Q1- In shop manual, it says dashpot helps with idle and starting the engine by providing additional air.

Q2-I don’t need the dashpot valve. Then again it depends on where you live maybe ? I live in San Diego and I don’t see any difference with or without the dashpot.

thanx for the help so far. i went through the helms manual again. helms says "the dashpot is employed to slow the closing of the throttle valve when it is suddenly closed during gear shifting or deceleration. the chiltons says pretty much the same. i decelerate a lot (just letting off the gas) and not using the brakes. i feel a sudden jerk everytime i just let go. so if i had the dashpot it would make it smoother right? where can i get one? how much would it be? do i need the valve too? i read a lot of strut bars will hit the dashpot. which bar does not interfere with anything?

according to the teg tips, reversing the check valve offers more mpg but causes stutter- which coincides with the idle/startup help. i dont think anyone has yet to clear this up

not sure what it does or doesn’t do, but the best place to go is a junkyard to find the dashpot.
