Daytime Running Lights FREE

Came across this doing the foglight switch mod to my 90 rs.

DIRECTIONS!!!

BEFORE finishing up the foglight mod grab the red/yel wire that is not used anymore (the one going into the dash), and hook it back up to where it used to go.

DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS (headlights) should now be coming on when the key is in the “ON” position (whether you have the headlight switch turned ON or OFF). Foglights are still functional as described in the below mod.

Wow pretty easy huh! Hope this helps someone! Maybe you Canada?

----- Here are the Teg Tips instructions on the Fog switch mod. -----

Rewiring Foglights.

The cool thing about this method is that you’ll wire the fog switch to another switch so that you won’t have to turn any lights on and cause your interior light (radio, clock) to dim during the day. You’ll be concerned only with the fogs switch and the rear defogger switch right next to it.

Disconnect the battery.

O.K., both switches will pop out towards you with a screw driver. The fog switch has five wires, the defogger has six.

First, find the red/yellow wire in the FOGS switch. Cut this wire about 2" away from the switch.

Now take the cut wire that’s STILL attached to the switch and splice it into the black/yellow wire of the Defogger switch.

You’re done. Now cover up everything with electrical tape including the other parts of the cut red/yellow wire of the fogs switch and see if everything works. The fogs should come on/off independently of the defogger switch which means you DON’T have to mess with the defogger switch ever. Just turn off/on the fogs button anytime and they WILL turn off automatically when the ignition is off.

doing this makes your rear defogger useless?

because mines actually works…

Does this make the rear defogger not work anymore? Mine still works fine.

i dunno why this would help us Canadian’s my teg came with day time running lights?? :read:

so are the headlights dimmer? if they are suppose to be DRL(jdm definition: city lights) it’s usually half the voltage that is needed to power the headlights to give it that dimmer look. remember now, DRL are mainly used so that your car becomes more visible to others. with this mod, it’ll just look like you’re driving with your headlights on(not necessary DRL).

i remember seeing a H-T member actually drilling holes on the bottom of his headlights and installing the 194 bulbs/connector…i even took time to find the picture. it’s an EF civic. hopefully he doesn’t mind me using his picture for reference.

NOTE:
this is NOT my car
…it’s not FREE, but it shouldn’t cost more than $20-$25

wiring harness

how it looks like installed

DRL on(the owner had them wired up to his parking lights…but you can easily connect them to a switch or straight to your accessory panel). the owner used amber, but regular bulbs would make it look more like DRL imo. im not sure if he installed them for show purposes or to make them DRL, but LOOKS NICE!!!

i also remember seeing the same thing done on a g2 member but don’t remember where i saw it…

this would be a nice mod for my car too

splicing wires does not mean cutting off the wire you’re splicing into (i.e. defoggers). they will work as normal if you do it correctly. Get some of those quick splice snapping clips from Kragen or any other auto parts store. Quick, easy, and safe (no exposed wires)
