DB1 Third Brake Light - DO NOT USE 921 BULBS!

If your third brake light assembly looks like it’s melting…

It’s not the sun- it’s the combination of having 921 bulbs in there and sitting in traffic!

Notice how the lens is warped and the housing is melted right around the bulbs:

The plastic was so brittle that it started falling apart as I was handling it.

Solution? Use red 194 LEDs meant for brake light replacements.
That’s what I did and they work great!

If you are intent on using 194 wedge style bulbs, I would use regular 168 bulbs instead. 168 is brighter than 194. Also I would stick to regular bulbs as the light illumination surface area is much better than LED, which tend to focus illumination in one direction.

Will the 168 bulbs put off the kind of heat that will warp the plastic tho? 3rd brake light on my coupe is melted the same way.

It shouldn’t. The 168 and 194 bulbs are of a much lesser wattage vs. 921.

168 bulb = 4.9 watts
194 bulb = 3.78 watts
921 bulb = 18 watts
