Ok so I know this has been asked Millions of time but here we go ,ok so I have a 92 db2 gsr with no engine harness and I know there is slightly no chance of finding the harness I need so how do I go about making this happen im not a total idiot I’m a mechanic and very wire savy any help is appreciated btw chassis harness and ecu plugs are there it’s obd1 just no engine side.
If you know what you’re doing it isn’t all that difficult to just make an RS/LS/GS harness work. A multi-meter and the wiring diagrams/pinouts are pretty much all you need. The quickest/easiest way to go about it would be:
-
Connect the engine harness to the main harness and then check every wire in the engine harness to make sure it’s connected to the ECU or other components as it should. You should need to move a wire or two where the main and engine harnesses connect. You can easily depin the wire(s) from the connector and just move it’s location. That’ll take care of all the wires that are the same for both engines.
-
Up next you need to add wiring for all the vtec related stuff - vtec solenoid, knock sensor… You can either add these wires to the engine harness and run a subharness thru the firewall and down to the ecu where you can splice into the correct wires. Or, the better way would be to run the wires from the sensors on the engine to the connectors where the engine and main harness meet and just fully integrate the wires into the engine harness so that they connect using the OEM connector and connect to the correct wires on the main harness. To do this you’d need to either buy the correct pins and crimp them on, or cut sections of wire with pins already on them and solder those onto the wires you added to the engine harness.
If you’re as wire savvy as you say then just break out the wiring diagrams and the multi-meter. It’s not rocket science but it is a bit tedious - there will be lots of checking and double checking. It’s really one of those things that would take a novel to fully explain but someone like yourself should just be able to use some common sense and figure it out. I just recently redid all the wiring from the firewall forward in my car and it’s pretty basic stuff, just a bit tedious like I mentioned. If you need info on where to buy pins and such if you decide to go that route, lmk.
I’ve had no luck finding any diagrams on the wiring for this car any links you know of that would help
Helms is the company that makes the factory service manual. You can find used versions for purchase and I believe they are still available online from Helms as well. www.helminc.com
