Hey guys, been out of the game for a while. Looking at a 92 GSR soon. What OEM parts should I make sure are included? It comes with a couple of engines and extra parts. I’m essentially taking everything out and just using the body and whatever engine I’m going to stick in there. Just want to see what all I can get rid of to recoup the original costs.
Anything I should look out for? No rust on it, which is the first thing that I care about.
well to some extent it defeats the purpose of buying a gsr if it doesn’t have the original b17a1 engine or short geared ys1. not that swapping anything in there other than the other stuff mentioned will make it any less of a car, but it’s the fact that those parts are more rare. In retrospect, it’s due to the rarity of the motor and transmission. you could find other short geared transmissions( b16/cable, type R, or gsr/both hydraulic) the particular transmission that comes with the b17 is cable and is very similar to the b16 but i believe the b16 has shorter gears.(don’t quote me on that) anyway i would look and make sure the badges, original interior, and motor are all there in one piece first. but congratulations if you pick it up! they are historic honda’s especially in mint condition
One of the engines is the b17a1. It has a bad piston, block is ok. Comes with a b16 tranny, whatever that means, with a quaife LSD. And a b18b.
The car looks good, but, flamesuit on, since I can’t find a clean LS, I’m just buying it to tear apart hence the part where I mentioned I was planning on selling parts to recoup the cost. Not just to destroy something beautiful, but for a straight track car frame.
Is there a market for things like the B17, the interior, badges, vtec moldings, etc?
There’s a little bit of a market for the GSR parts, but not a crazy premium for most stuff. People will still pay $60 for vtec moldings but if you’re building a track car then that’s a drop in the bucket.
I turned my DB2 into a track car as well because it was convenient and I didn’t want to spend time looking for an RS shell when I had a DB2 shell a friend was willing to sell me. I often feel bad about this and that this car will never be a beautiful, full interior, stock-ish DB2 again. But what’s done is done and I’m still putting the car to good use as far as I’m concerned.
yeah man. if your going straight track car, it doesnt really matter (unless you want it to) if it looks like a true gsr. as far as aftermarket for the b17 and such as colin mentioned already, there’s a small one. like he mentioned about moldings look at this(sorry for ebay link lol) http://www.ebay.com/itm/92-93-Acura-Integra-GsR-VTEC-Fender-Molding-OEM-DB2-Rare-/321587227640?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4ae017abf8&vxp=mtr it’s ridiculous if your not gonna try and make it a “mint” gsr again. which you probably are not trying to do, so i mean build-wise it’s where ever you want to go with it. But you sound like you got a good start on things to utilize+ a shell. You can build either motor up (the 17 also since it’s basically a stroked obd1 b16a with lower compression ratio) and leave them n/a or boost them. i don’t know a whole lot about the b17 since i have an ls, but there’s a better aftermarket for b18a1 or b1’s and parts are always floating around. or you could go for an ls/v setup if you know anything about those. But all in all man, if you do this, Take your time because while honda’s may be able to endure the mistakes of some shade tree mechanic(me lol) slapping it together, build it correctly so you can reach your power goals ect. ect. while also increasing it’s longevity. And we will all be proud of you my friend haha
EDIT: or kswap, jswap, hswap, lol those are all gonna take alot more though since there are not drop in b series motors. p.s. sorry for not fixing my grammatical mistakes like no capitals and what not
If you buy the car I will buy that b17 from you I tryed to buy just the motor from the guy but he wants to sell the whole car and all I have a 92 gsr but I bought it with a bad crank and can’t find one anywhere so I just been letting the car sit till I come across one
I’m considering keeping it so that I would have a backup, but would entertain the idea of selling the B17 to you since you want to keep your GS-R a GS-R. If you want, shoot me an email with your phone number and we can chat. You could probably get anything else that I’ll be getting rid of that may be in better condition than is on your car. Hey Colin, I wouldn’t mind picking your brain sometime regarding the car. I’ve been away for a really long time and am not 100% sure on what parts a track car needs and what are wastes of money. When I was around before, I wanted tons of HP and to look mad jdm. I figured that before sending it off to get caged/painted/safety equipment, I’d do the suspension bushings including the RTA and fill my motor mounts with something very hard. (Still not sure what’s best now) In addition to that, just general stage 0 maintenance. Timing belt, gaskets, fluids, etc…
I replied to your classing question just now, so we can chat about that stuff over in that thread or even if you had a build thread. Or you’re always more than welcome to email me and we can discuss. I won’t have all the answers, but I wouldn’t mind helping out if I can
