I bought my 92 DA9 with this exhaust and I hate it!! Urgh I want it off my car!! I have a B16 with no cat, no resonator and 2 3/4 inch piping straight back. Its been hell trying to find a resonator and figure out how to rig it up to quiet it down. This is definitely the first mod I want done. It’s so annoying!! My God I can’t believe they even made this exhaust. If anyone has any ideas or knows of a SUPER QUIET exhaust that would work for me, I would love to hear it. I am also willing to trade, sell or swap this exhaust for something that is deep and mellow sounding yet still looks good, I don’t want a huge tip either. Let me know guys, I’m a newbie to g2ic… this is my first DA9, my dream car!!
I have a DC Sports Exhaust on my 91 DA. I have a Omni Power Adjustable Test Pipe to make up for the length that it was short. (Originally for the 92 - 93) And mine isn’t loud at all. Granted it was quieter when I had the cat on. But it only got a little louder when I swapped it for the test pipe. I have a Comptech ITR header mated to the exhaust. You said that you didn’t have a resonator. Mine does. You must not have the complete cat back. Just maybe the rear section. If your wanting a nice exhaust check out the RS*R E-Mag, or the Greddy SP2. Both have got great reviews on here. I would also check out Tanabe Hyper Medallion. It’s a little bit cheaper in price compared to the other two. But just as good.
or… you could have a muffler shop put a cat on, resonator, 2.25 in. piping, and a muffler of your choice. unless you’re running a fat turbo setup, that 2 3/4 in. piping is killing your performance. Also, test pipes are proven to provide about a 1-2 hp increase if anything.
I put a 24" glasspack on my 240sx to quiet it down and it worked great… I just cut the pipe in 2 places and put the glasspack in place and clamped it down… worked wonders, but they don’t last forever.
Before IcemanGSR chimes in I have to agree with what he would say. Test also has been proven that a good High Flow Cat gives the same hp increase as a test pipe. And it also keeps the bad out of the atmosphere. The only reason I’m running one is for the length. I will probably be changing to a Carsound cat and seeing if I can find the adapter pipe from Tanabe to make up the difference. Just a thought if you care about what fumes comes out of your exhaust.
